There are several things wrong with society everywhere on a whole today.

I'm not going to go into all of them here, but number one is people not being able to stand up for themselves. This may seem like it came out of nowhere for some of you guys, but this is a very big problem, I think, which is causing massive faggotry on a larger scale than has ever been imagined.

Kids like to thing they're becoming 'tougher', because they wear their hats backwurdz liek a strait ^ G yo, or because their parents happen to work in a boring, well-paying job (never mind the fact their parents probably had to work like hell to get a job they enjoyed and would pay for their kids to go to college). The fact is, most kids these days have no backbone at all. They became the way they are by not standing up like a man and telling the idiots who think everybody should be like them to BACK THE FUCK OFF. Most are the BLANDEST fecking creatures to ever walk the earth. No interesting skills or talents, no peculiarities, no REAL uniqueness at all. When compared to the average 1st grader, the 1st grader wins overall, in my opinion. I'd rather hang out with him than the idiot in the Hollister shirt.

AND, if only people would stand up for themselves, the problem would be over! People would finally realize how retarded getting drunk every night is, or how stupid they look wearing boxers to school everyday. People who actually want to learn will keep on learning, people who want to get drunk will keep on getting drunk by themselves, the world will continue humping along on it's merry path. End.

As for technology causing the problem... maybe. I agree that technology is useful for a great deal of things... but for others, it should just be skipped over.

For example: my art class is 800-odd people strong. Having an exam, on paper, in one hour, would be nigh on impossible. Therefore, the exams are scheduled to be taken on computer in a lab environment, which is really efficient compared to paper tests of the same magnitude.

HOWEVER, my math class is only about 30 people strong, but the math department thinks they need to do every single thing on a computer, so they do the same setup for the math tests. Completely retarded, in my opinion. I have larger classes (think 100-odd people) where we just took the paper (scantron) test and were done with it, but the math department wants to look good by doing everything on computer... regardless of whether they need to or not).

Lastly, I'll leave you guys with one more thought:

Who cares? As long as you stick up for yourself, keep your hands in your pockets, and your head down, you'll be alright. Fuck everybody else and whatever the hell they think. Even if they do end up taking over in a zombie-style B-grade horror fashion, you can still rest happy in your knowledge that you've lived a much more meaningful and happier life than them.

Oh, and:

The average graduate of an HVAC tech school winds up making tons more money than your average college graduate. Just something to remember whenever it seems all those college idiots will wind up on top. They wont.

Yup, my dad showed me how to do it, it is a very useful thing to know. In a nutshell, you turn the key to the run position, put the car in second gear, hold in the clutch, drift the car down a hill (or have someone push it) let out the clutch and on the gas, and prepare for some whiplash

Epic. That was awesome.
Its kinda like Rubiks Cubes, when you solve one infront of people, everyone is like "OMFG how did you do that?"
If you actually try (search net etc) its alot easier. (ANd yes, i can solve a Rubiks Cube.)

I think that the ignorance of people when it comes to mechanics or science, or both, is mainly due to the lack of caring.
I think critically and question everything nowadays; and if I don't know enough about a subject to debate it competently, I look it up at the first chance I get.
Coming into this topic, I had just about no idea how to jump start a car. After reading the posts concerning jump starting cars, I opened up a new tab and read through the first four results I got from Google. Now I feel competently able to jump start a car if I get stuck in that situation.
If more people cared about how things worked, enough to get off of their lazy asses and do some research or ask some questions, they would just have such a better understanding of how to work competently by themselves or do moderate physical labor.

i think you mean a push start. lol

i completely agree with most things that have been said. i know myself i am starting to fall into that category, i come home from school, hop on the computer for a couple of hours, and then go to work come home and sit on the computer to anywhere from 12 onwards i hate it but i've become so accustomed to it i feel there is nothing else to do. i love doing outdoor things like every weekend me and mates would go out bow hunting and hunt down roos, all day we would go out no stopping for lunch nothing then when we get back we would go fishing, also we would go goat hunting on foot chase down the animal and kill with a knife same with feral sheep. But these last 6 months we haven't due to the fact they moved away to pursue a tafe course :(, So instead of doing what i enjoyed i ended up going out and getting drunk with my other group of mates on the weekends until recently a few of them moved back so its been good we have only went out once so far but that was a really good weekend and we all enjoyed it so there will be more. but its never like it was we all have our liscence's now so its different and the main people who used to organize this are gone, they will be moving back tho soon i hope.

also since a young age coming from a small rural town where we did own a farm i was always brought up to save my money for the future so i will not be in debt and can then own everything i purchase, and i have always enjoyed tinkering with whatever i can get my hands on, i have shot a gun probably 4 times, and i can jump start a car, also i can drive a manual trans and i prefer them over autos, i service my own car and i help service dads trucks and loaders, i always help him build furniture when he does, and i do know my way around computers probably a little too well.

also its about time i built me a decent spud gun and posted it up, i've got 3 pneumatics and want to build a combustible, only thing mum and dad are completely against them so everything i build remains hidden :( and as im saving for a new car my finances are limited.

I love how people talk about this mass ignorance like it's a novel concept. Believe me when I tell you it's not.

Throughout history, and up until fairly recently, only rich people were educated. The "trends" back them were simply governed by religious institutions and not manufacturers/media like they are today. And believe me when I say that people followed them with conviction. I strongly doubt that for all of Hollister's populatity, they'd get people to join a crusade against the GAP.

If you ask me, things are better than ever these days. Dumb people are still dumb, but at least they can be educated and are smarter than they used to be. At least "trends" are limited to clothing, and not reasons to start wars and/or kill random people under the banner of righteousness.

Having worked in the service industry a bit, I can't say I mind people's lack of understanding- it makes me money :D

Indeed. You kick start a motorbike. Basically when the ignition doesn't work, start kicking at the motor while uttering profanities until the thing starts :)

Push starts are also sometimes known as a bump start - not to be confused with a jump start though.
Does that thing kinda look like a big cat to you?
