With these references to the Matrix, it got me thinking of Agent smith saying humans are a parasitic organism on this earth.
I find it rather amusing that humans as a whole think we can change things to be what we want and that we are by far the superior race on this planet. We have a superiority complex, and this will most likely lead to our downfall.

We strip this planet of its resources; we turn natural terrain into massive blocks of concrete and asphalt; we dump our waste onto this planet with out a second thought.
On top of this, we give nothing back. The only reason we are trying to protect the environment is for our own personal needs. "Protect the rain forest because it helps provide oxygen". "protect the ice caps from melting because they could cause flooding and adversely effect our way of lives". "Protect endangered animals so future generations can enjoy them." The only reason we try and help this planet and protect it from ourselves is for our own personal gain.

Our actions and existence on this planet are prime examples of parasitic behavior. So the sad truth is, that we are parasites. A virus which uses this planet and its resources to survive. Everything we have came from this "rock" we live on, which we have given nothing back to. So we talk about how bad viruses and parasites are, when in reality, we are hypocrites because we are these things we try to rid the earth of (to help aid in our survival). Maybe someday Earth will open up a "bug bomb" or two to get rid of us.

On the other hand, what would the universe care if the Earth simply disappeared tomorrow? Hardly anything would change. It would be like removing a single atom, from a grain of sand on a beach the size of a planet.

In my opinion, as long as our race can survive long enough to expand, and colonize other worlds (which becomes increasingly less likely by the day, largely due to these disgusting environmental groups), the Earth could be transformed into a massive ball of radioactive glass and I wouldn't shed a tear. As I believe there is no meaning in life, and that, as Jack so eloquently put it, "...we only live it because we choose to", I couldn't care less what happens to the planet Earth, so long as our race can survive.

I do however, agree, that the humanity behaves very similarly to a parasitic organism. Luckily for the universe at large, we don't seem to agree with each other enough to progress very far from this little lump of rock we've been stuck on for our entire existence.

Well, although the later Matrix films were just bad, the first was pretty good. The problem was they made a great film, which they then used as justification for off loading a truckload of manure.

These are all currently unprovable questions, at least until we find a way of communicating with any afterlife that there may or may nor be. The thing is, our search is limited to our dimensions and things that can react with them, and even then we have problems.
To explain, we are mostly sure dark matter exists - problem is, it can only interact with us with gravity, and we have difficulty detecting it. We are only likely to detect it when a sufficently large mass of the stuff meets with earth, and that might well cause problems.

If we can't even find something we think is very likely to exist, how will we ever find something we don't even know if it exists?

Sorry goat, I didn't really have an issue with your post, it was your opinion, which I respect, and there was no need to argue against it by the other members.

Guys just remember the difference, don't say what is right and wrong for other people, just say what your beliefs and opinions are and no one should have a problem.

Again sorry about cleaning up all the posts but it had to be done to have a fresh start.

Would you really want to know the meaning of life?

It would probably be a bit disappointing. I like to think (and my life experience so far has led me to believe this) that life is essentially meaningless. This isn't a reason for despair however - for some, perhaps, hence why religion was created - but personally, it just means you're free to attach whatever meaning you want to it, and that's just brilliant

I would recommend watching Monthy Python's "The meaning of life", amusing and humbing at the same time

ahh the monty python films, they are definitly some of my favourite and i personally like the topless ladys at the end of 'the meaning of life' although it would be hard to pick my favourite because i also like 'the lige of brian' and 'the holy grail' 8)
