Just out of curiosity, i was wondering if anybody on these forums ever modified nerf guns? Me and my friends used to do it in about 8th grade, and actually we were able to get them equally as powerful as paintball guns (granted, we made our own foam ammunition since regular nerf darts would blow apart under the high PSI). But yeah, any nerfers out there?

yep I do some nerf stuff. I made my longshot pump action with my own design and gave it a sick paint job. I modded the shit out of a nightfinder to shoot at least a 100 feet, and damn accurate. Also I had a failed attempt at using the guts of a nite finder and use them with the 6 barreled auto rotating maveric, using the same body. That project failed but I learned alot. So Im guessing you frequent nerf haven?

The only nerf gun I ever had was a Lock and Load, which now I look it up is considered "arguably the best single shot Nerf weapon available".

Really? I was never that impressed with it, it seemed pretty wimpy, and it's probably hidden in the bottom of a drawer somewhere.
If I still have it perhaps I should dig it up and supercharge it for more "POWER!!!"

Nerfs and high pressure don't mix.

Besides, how can you take a damage picture of a bit of foam hitting something unless it's made of paper :P

that would be totally doable, and has been done, you just need a totally new trigger.

I took apart this one nerf gun i had but decided it wasn't worth modifying it since I would have to replace basically everything in it to yield enough power to be worth modding in the first place.

I agree with hotwired about no damage pics with a foam dart. Would have to make new ammo. Maybe if i'm bored i'll try it

Modding nerf guns is my second hobby, I also belong to the NerfHQ forum. I love making the Nite Finders shoot 80+ feet using the same spring it came with that originally shot 5 feet. I have actually sold a couple, and they hurt like crazy when we shoot them at each other. My Black Iron QEV cannon shoots dart tag darts at ~700 fps at least 300-400ft. Im not even kidding, one of them went through 4 layers of thick cardboard. I found that if you leave some clearance around the dart they dont shred, such as the space between the dart tag dart and 1/2" sch 40 pvc.

Now there's an idea. What will happen if I combine 435 psi and a Nerf dart?

I modified an "expand a shot" or whatever the one that the stock and barrel pop out on.It was a piece of junk when I got it and now it leaves red marks when you shoot it at someone

I used to modify Nerf guns that was before I moved on up to building my own Black powder guns. My parents bought used Nerf guns from swap meets or something because they were used when I got them for xmas or my birthdays. It was also around the time I got my first pump water gun.
The Two I had was some type of pump Nerf gun that shot large foam balls.
Eventually I wasn't satified by the weakness of water guns or Nerf guns and started to modify them.

The water guns became BB guns then later pellet guns, Nerf guns I added power by using more dangerous projectiles. I had thousands of those 'pop-its' and I'd take their contents and dump it into a large paper ball. And then I'd shoot that ball with the Nerf gun into walls and parked cars. They didn't do any damage it was just fun. Like spitting on cars from an freeway overpass.

Towards the end the modifications (on the two guns) eventually had most of their internals removed, and became guns in guns. Sorta like buying a rifle and painting the tip orange.
The last mods simply used the case of the gun to hid a huge metal barrel and some wiring. At that point, my Nerf guns were not Nerf guns anymore. I didn't start with black powder for about two years, so I used trick noisemakers as explosive charges.

So that is the story of two used pump Nerf guns that turned into anti-personnel shotguns in about 4 years time.

I ditched them when I turned 12 when I built a BP pistol.

I believe that his post was fine.
Sure it talks about BP but doesn't go into too much dangerous details
