My fellow Americans, here they go, police going door to door asking to search your house for guns, this is starting in D.C. and i'm sure will spread to all U.S. states before long. What a dirty shame, history tells us what happens when the government takes away citizens rights (such as defending themselves). Guess who will have guns (the criminals) and guess who will be easy victims.
Of course for now they are "asking" your permission but this will change.

Your right this is wrong. However I do not belive that it will spread over the country. In the recent supreme court ruling anything like this woudl be shot down as unconsitutional

I do agree that Police should not take guns away from (law abiding) citizens but, first off, it is voluntary. Second, it will eliminate some illegal guns, since DC has an extreme crime rate.

I think this article should have been read in full before everyone gets upset about it. Besides, Americans will not allow the Government to take away their right to bare arms. We fought a war to stop that.

If weapons are recovered, they will be tested and destroyed if they are not found to be linked to any other crimes.

Now this is bullshit. I wonder if it was the media or the "community leaders" who said this.

Do we really have any say so over the govt now days? my opinion is not at all, they do what they want when they want. well then u say that is why we vote, give me one person worth voting for!

The supreme court is taking up this very issue as we speak.

It doesn't look good for the unconstitutional D.C. gun ban. It could be they are trying to get a few off the street while they think they still have some authority to do so.

You're right to a certain extent. The government will do what they want. But, by doing this, they would risk total anarchy.

Like Spuddin said, a democracy is only as good as its politicians. If none of them will stand for the rights of the people, then the people will lose their rights.

I don't believe that the American people as a whole will allow their government to deprive them of one of their most long standing rights, or at least I hope so. Canada's current situation is depressing, and it's only getting worse. I hope that the rest of you won't have to suffer the same problem.

That's why I wouldn't worry about it. Remember back in the 20's when the government passed an amendment for prohibition? That didn't work out, and that was only about beer. It would be the same with "gun control," only worse.

I agree...would have to look at the statistics agian but doesn't the majority of americans own a fire arm. If its not a majority its a pretty dang good percent.

What makes me nervouse about the politics of this country is how willing the poeple are to give up freedoms in the name of security. Especialy after 9/11... if we keep going on this rate the goverment is oging to have more power then we might want them to have...

My personal belief is that a civilian armed country is truely a free country...(no offense to my aussie friends)

Here in Chicago (city proper, with a few suburbs), you need to register your handgun. However, the only people who can register handguns are law-enforcement personnel, effectively making handguns illegal to the general public. This doesn't affect the ownership of long guns. And it's only a city-wide ordnance, the state of Illinois does not enforce it.

There's plenty of reasons not to live in Chicago, that's one of them. I prefer to be able to own a handgun if I choose to, so that's why I moved. This whole thing seems silly, but Washington DC has some of the worse crime in the US. Chicago's crime went down significantly, but it does warrant the question -- the more you outlaw, the more criminals will have that you don't. So how do you combat that?

This seems to be pretty clear and sound stuff. I really don't see how they can outlaw guns due to the constitution in the capital itself, but then again, our government doesn't seem to be on top of the ball on anything lately. I can understand that having an AT-4 might be a bit overkill, but if they're outlawing guns, they logicaly must outlaw cars too. Afterall, they kill people when used irresponsibly too, right? God bless the system

Well remember the depression when the government got HUGE and controlled almost all aspects of the country. it helped. I know this is different, and yeah we do need to keep that constitutional right.

The difference now is our society's totally different from back then. People are much more voiced and are less afraid to speak up if they want to whine about something.
