My project I'm designing...

This is a design I am working on I wanted to share, I will post details once I get this photo uploaded...[img]
[/img]well o.k. this is my design for a (camera I have is a pain/had spyware removed and i must've deleted something important).
This is a design I am working on for a recoilless cannon. The concept which has already been used works on newton's law. if there are two projectiles inside the barrel exactly equal weight, centered perfectly and same length barrel the recoil of one flying out one end and the other in the opposite direction cancel the recoil. I plan on these specs:
- fires atleast 12 maybe 30 arrows out front w/ plastic packing foam wad and break away guide sabot on front or middle of arrows.
-fires equal number/weight out back but they are glued into foam wad at bot ends, and maybe tied to a rope for recovery and reuse.
-the reservoir will be bigger diameter than the barrel since twice the air will be needed to get same velocities.
-it will be piston valved from inside the t in front of the shoulder rest.
-the rear tube can be fitted with a disconnect so it can be configured traditionally and will be 5.5 to 6 feet long.
i am hoping for filling to about 200 psi and shooting for 300fps . I want to use atleast 3 or 4 inch pipes for the barrel(s)
If i ever get finished I wanted to name it Deerzooka because it won't blow me out of a tree stand. maybe I'd call it Grizzooka like a grizzly bear or BoomHilda and HildaBoom after the two barrels and enormous size. well hope you guys like it and hope to see some recoillesses soon.
p.s. i probably should have waited to build it and enter some contest but I'm not in it for that right now. sorry the pictures so small.

honestly.. ur not gonna have much recoil.. with or without this design.. unless your like 50lbs and 2 feet tall.

actually, recoil would cause more problems the taller you are, so if he was 50 lbs and 7 feet tall, it might cause him to sway a little bit (from the wind...)

lol.. dewey.. you know.. i believe it was.. cause i felt no recoil at all.. ( a little hot air.. but no recoil)

i was talking about recoil (kick) and him being little and not being able to handle it..

@ dewey.. true... :D

@ scottcrete why do you think he is not going to have much recoil without this design ? it depends mostly on the weight of the gun and ammo... remember that 200 psi + large diameter pipes = a lot of power

@ THUNDERLORD first ask yourself whether you really have to make it recoiless... it depends on materials you are going to use. PVC is light but at the same time your gun would have more recoil. On the other hand steel pipes would be heavy but you wouldn't have to make it recoiless..

I'm not sure whether it makes sense to make it recoiless - ok it would work but you have to build a gun with 2 barrels and twice as big chamber so it's going to be bigger than it has to be and would cost more... If I were you I would build it all steel and I would make sure it is as heavy as it can be and forget about making it recoilless (you could make something that would let you add more weight to it when you really need it - f.e. add a pipe that can be filled with water before firing or something)

how heavy ammo you're going to use ??

The ammo weight would be 12 to maybe 30 fullsize arrows plus foam wading not styrofoam but the thick plastic foam they pack electronics in sometimes. I have a way i bang arrows out homemade, i want to post instructions soon . using a 3/8" dowel, 3/8" brass tube or a .38, .357 or 9mm shell casing with the rim cut off, a 3/8" piece of all thread and some super glue and foam or just buy the vanes(fins) from an archery store. for this design i love metal but i was thinking pvc but whatever it takes to get 300fps (which is what the powerful compound bows shoot at). the idea for the piston i got from http://www.geocities.com/man_o_brass2/two_inch_piston , Jack Armstrong's site. i meant to put that in my post but i couldn't find it. As far as recoil, are you joking, i actually quit building combustions long time ago because one good shot from my old tennis ball combustion w/ starting fluid kicked like 5 12 gauges. The recoiless concept can be used in other ways but someone would have to experiment a little. for example it would make your rocket launchers more realistic if baby powder or something blew into the "back blast area". it would also certainly work with those massive hybrid cannons.

Well if you shoot something heavy you will have recoil, big difference between a snowball and an industrial dog toy., but arrows..., Looks cool, dunno if it's necessary.

other issue I see with this is that if you make it recoilless, then you will need to install a rear view mirror to make sure that you don't hit anyone behind you. It would be like pointing a gun at "the enemy" and then turning around with your eyes closed, and shooting somewhere behind you... not smart...

Paragraphs THUNDERLORD, paragraphs.

Just incase you only read capital words, PARAGRAPHS :)

Seriously, I would bother reading that if I wasn't so pessimistic and you included paragraphs in your post.

Raghhh! :o

O.K after gaffa taping my head to my LCD screen to force myself to read the post, I figured, why bother?

Sure you could get it to work, but is there much point? You're just wasting precious power, that, and recoil isn't neccesarily a bad thing

I'd put up with the recoil for the power, isn't worth the waste IMO.

When you come up with a desgin that doesn't waste much, if any, power, then i'll be interested :)

Dude, that is like having two barrels! Your performance will kinda... Oh darn MrCrowley beat me. (Just looked at the post above.) Interesting idea, but it isn't quite like a real recoiless rifle, which doesn't waste a terrible amount.
