Smallest Electric Kart update
LOOK ON PAGE 7 FOR PICTURES, ALL IN NEED IS PAINT(RED), AND TO BOLT ON THE MOTOR(BEHIND THE BATTERY).
Ok, so you guys remember my old thread, dont you? Well, i have spent a couple months redesigning it and here she is! 3/8 inch steel square tubing frame, pvc "roll cage"(not really, dont know what to call it). I still need to get a seat though. I used a motor from an old electric scooter, and run it on a 12 volt lawn and garden battery from walmart, right now, i can get about 10 mph for 1 hour 35 minutes on a full charge(thats right, not a typo). And the blue box on the back is for the battery, only temporary though. I wil be getting 2 more 12 volt batteries in about a week. Just ask if you need to know something. Oh, and it needs to be repainted, any suggestions?, And the wheels are from a shopping cart, and i have the belt sprocket from the motor scooter bolted onto the wheel, and i am thinking about replacing these wheels with some pneumatic ones.
EDIT- I have changed the cage, and put it in some 1/2 inch pipe insulation. Me and a friend are almost done building a gas one, with a mini BMW racing motorcycle engine .

I would have personally built the frame a bit larger... Say, enough to accommodate a powered gun turret? Nice looking kart, though. Steering?
Completed projects:
CA1 SMSS Basic Inline
CA3 PDAB Airburst Cannon
Current Project: Bolt action rifle (25x140mm + 1in shot)

As for steering, not sure yet, right now, i just grab the axle(PVC, and it doesnt move, the wheels move independently), and push or pull it the way i want to turn. And i dont really need it bigger, im 4'9", and only 70 LBS, it doesnt need to be largeSEAKING9006 wrote:I would have personally built the frame a bit larger... Yes pneumatic wheels for sure. Are you going to mount 3 batteries on that thing or just keep 2 aside charging? If you are going for a 3 battery mount, the weight will become a significant factor in the balance and handling.
Ummm, Where's the brakes?..

Sorry . Looks like this cart would be a bit of fun! 10MPH = 16KPH. 3 times walking speed, can it go any faster? What would happen if you put 24v through the motor? At first sign of danger, bail out. Your soon to be wired bracelet kill switch will take care of the rest. Until wiring in the kill switch, just force feet into ground at exposed floor while simultaneously removing the power
It would run faster. Then probably burn out.microman171 wrote:What would happen if you put 24v through the motor?
Motors can be overvolted to a degree but if it's something you're not prepared to lose then you should try and check with the manufacturer first.

Yeah I thought the motor may burn out. Maybe you should try and get a gear box for it? 16KPH isn't exactly fast.
But even though it's slow, this is really cool!

It is a 24 volt motor, and now i am only running it on 12 volts, so i will use 2 at a time and leave 1 charging.

Oh, and for the brakes, you turn off the switch(no throttle), and push your feet into the ground atm. and the other batteries are the ones that came with the scooter that i used the motor from.
