Some of you may know me as the Airsoft Guy, but some of you may not know that I am into other things besides Airsoft.

I have always been interested in anything computer related. I have already done my Cisco certification (CCNA) for Computer Networking, and right now I'm going to school for my IT Programming Degree here in Wisconsin
(I know, I know, I should have my programming degree finished already I'm only 21).

Part of my interest in computers is Web Design and Graphic Design. Not only do I like to write and debug code but I also like designing. I feel like It will give me the triple threat I need to get a good job(Programming, Networking, Graphic Design).

Now I have not taken any classes on the topics of Graphic Design but I have taken a few drawing classes. I have been messing around with Photoshop for quite some time.

Here are some of my previous designs:

http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h168/ ... center.jpg
http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h168/ ... iessig.jpg
http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h168/ ... elight.jpg
http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h168/ ... idmsig.jpg
http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h168/ ... ctcopy.jpg
http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h168/ ... ionair.jpg
http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h168/ ... addred.jpg
http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h168/ ... screen.jpg
http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h168/ ... switch.jpg
http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h168/ ... pgfile.jpg
http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h168/ ... erlist.jpg

Point of this post:
  • I want to build my portfolio up to show the world what I can do when it comes to graphic and web design.
I want you to tell me what you think of my designs through this process
I want to create signatures, logos, website designs for the members of spudfiles for free(I only demand that you tell me what you think.)
So if you have any kind of graphic, logo, banner, Website design, signature, poster, etc, let me know what you want, what general color scheme you would like, what you want it to say or any other details and I will work on them. I will work one at a time based on what one I want to work on at that given time.

EDIT: Can you guys post your requests in here rather than in PM.. my inbox is getting full again...[

Also if you have a request and it has an image that you want to use.. post it in link format and not embedded format.

I have to say, you clearly demonstrate some talent in the area. I haven't any requirement for such things myself, but I'd certainly advise others to take the opportunity while it's offered.

Very nice work!
(and I mean it, or I would had just stay quiet)

I am a Windows programmer myself, but nothing related to web. I learned robotics, and now I am more in the design and programming of GUI (graphic user interfaces) in C++/C#/.NET for customers. I do that since… well... since too long! You don’t want to know! And I don’t want to remember ;-)

You show some promising talent, and some graphic artists I worked with in the past could learn a few things from you.

Keep up the good job!

Thank you for all your positive feedback!

I am now open to create any said graphic for you guys for free, so if you need any graphic done, just let me know. The subject matter for the design can be anything.

Also don't feel bad or anything for asking, most of the stuff that I posted was done in less than 15 minutes each.

When I was at art school, I wasnt in graphic design, But I went to school with a few kids who were. One of their projects that stuck out in my mind was to create a cereal box. As in Make up a cereal, and fully print out graphics and fold them into a box. I think it showed a greater sense of design. Not just the graphics, but also imagining how the whole thing would come together in 3d. I think it would be a good portfolio piece. Think outside the box man. sorry, I had to

As has been stated before, people should really take advantage of this. Graphic designs are not cheap elseware.

So do you think my stuff looks professional?

If not, how close or far are my designs away from being professional looking?

BTW great idea about the cereal box.

The graphics look great. I like the Airsoft Fury, but the fury needs a little more contrast against the background fireball on the second one. The first one is better as a good part of the word has the white background for contrast.

If by 'professional' you mean 'God forking damn amazing', then yes. I feel that your best part is the more abstractness, as in the first airsoft one.

Great work.

Of course it looks professional. I think it looks better than 99% of what is on the web. Problem is 99 percent of the web was designed by people with no art experience and probably for free. Getting those high paying design jobs is tough, I know from experience. There are thousands out there just like you.

I don't think that skill has too much to do with getting a job at graphic design. It helps, but I think knowing the right people is more important. That and finding a way to make yourself standout. Do a design project that the employer wont expect.

As to the subject of web design in particular, keep doing what you are doing, but keep a keen eye on how much contrast there is between the font and the background. I feel that legibility is more important than how neat it looks.

I was once pay by a oil company (Total) to design the sticker for this bottle.

The trick was that it must also looks nice when it is on a shelf, with many bottles in a row. And you need to decide that before the bottle and sticker are even available. I just had a prototype bottle. So I designed the bottle in 3D, mapped the sticker, and made a 3D picture with plenty of bottles aligned on a shelf. At that time, 3D was in its infancy, and I had the job with my graphic artist partner.
If you are innovative, you'll stick apart from the crowd. There's plenty talented people out there. But there's only a few that want to do things differently. And that's what company are seeking, to look apart from the competition.

Hey David this is quite a timely post. I just started work on my own website and It was just a random design... check it out here: http//www.flawlessavage.com Savage is a game I play, and Flawless is the name of my clan. If you want to make me a new front page (that's all the site really needs) I'd be much appreciative.
The one thing it needs is an easy to find link the the forums at /forums :P

If you want to try sticking with the diamond motif I think it fits the name flawless well, but I'm open to anything else. Also I can change the theme of the forum easily so color scheme is not an issue. Hit me up on IM or MSN
pizlo@hotmail.com or pizl0.

Thanks mate, and your work looks good, you do it cleanly and you have a good eye.

EDIT: are you interested in writing the HTML, or just making the graphical portions? Either is fine by me.
