after reading all the posts so far i think I'm gonna for 150psi with mine.. i would fell very safe even higher as my compressor is in the shed next to my workshop and i have a remote power switch..

the poor quail in the compressor shed would get it if she does blow though (but they get it anyway when i eat em.. and i am kinda sick of my compressed air smelling like quail lol)

like stated in previous post, the likely hood of it blowing up is slim to nill, providing ur compressor has a safty pop off which it would, and has no rust, i manged to get an extra 50psi out of mine and despite the danger i still feel safe.
ive been testing the compressor for the past three hours at thoses pressures without failure,so i presume she will hold for the meantime, altho im going to start bleeding it from now on.

quail ?? whats that taste like ,(please dont say like chicken)

no closer to duck i would say.. slight game flavour, is low on fat so helps to fry or cook wrapped in pancetta (i make my own) to keep it moist.. taste nice but a PITA to clean and pluck lol

well i'll see when my pop-off starts poppin then :)

high speed footage of a grenade explosion:

Note how the steel case ballons before exploding. No shop compressor is ever going to generate that sort of pressure to rupture a tank so violently, I am fairly confident that it is practically impossible for a tank to just blow up.

At best if it is rusted a small hole or tear might develop and dump the contents of the tank, but the motor would burn out long before you got the sort of pressure that would lead to an untimely demise in a hail of flying shrapnel.

yeah but dumping contents of a large tank can casue the room explode

... if air escapes out of the tank at a rate faster than it can leave the room, that would take either a pretty massive tank rupture or a hermetically sealed room :?

I've heard about serious incidents with 4500 psi diving tanks rupturing, but here we're talking about well below 10% of that pressure.

With 100 bar plus pressures, sure...

.. but shop compressors?

it isn't of the highest quality but it shows quite well that you wouldn't want to be inside a room when an air compressor explodes... and notice that this building was quite big and far from being 100% hermetical
