I am putting together a mini-lathe with a mixer big ac motor and rubber belt, but accidently i cutted the rubber belt by pressing on it with a vise grip...and now i am stuck...
I tough of making a rope with ties in it to make the dents but i hope to get a better solution to that...
How could i make a belt by myself? In metal or rubber i dont care but do you guys know some techniques?Like in the metal necklaces or something...
I would really appreciate some tips.

leather belts were widely used.
sewing machine belt another possibility.
Or any belt, V or other kind and use an idler to tighten.

I would recommend trying to find a replacement belt at
Tractor Supply Company. They have a large selection of belts, and they are all dirt cheap. Judging by your avatar you are Canadian, and I believe that TSC has a few locations in Canada.

Do i absolutly need dents on the belt? V belt looks like they work by friction only.
I wonder if rona sell those...
The exact lenght is'nt really a problem, as i can put two othere poulies to stretch it...
I can also get to find some old combustion engines an hope there is the right v belt on it for me...

The "dents" are relief cuts. They allow the rubber of the belt to pass around a small pulley without wrinkling on the inside or cracking on the outside. Either condition shortens the life of a belt considerably.
What kind of lathe is it? Can you post maker and model? Maybe a picture of the lathe, and a close-up of the plate with the model info on it?

Its not a lathe but a big ac motor from a mixer.
I have decided to forget the belt and put the motor inline with the rotating thing...simpler like that.
( i am making a small plastic working lathe)
I will get pics when it will be done.
