This bothers me as well!
A) is a 30mm Hughes M230 Chain Gun as is commonly found hanging underneath the Apache.
B) is the Minigun's little brother in 5.56mm, the XM-214 "microgun" - which is NOT a chain gun, but a Gatling gun.

Gatling gun. Not chain gun. Does this mean that Doom got it wrong?

JSR,
The old Dillon video called "Machine Gun Magic" showed the internals of a 30mm Chain Gun in motion. It had a double row roller chain actuating what looked like an M16 bolt on steroids. I've not seen that vid anywhere online.... Is is on sale at Dillon in DVD version now....

Oh, I'm not arguing. I'm just a little disheartened that our first beloved first-person-shooter DOOM would mislead so many impressionable youths.jackssmirkingrevenge wrote:Feel free to argue with Alliant Techsystems Inc. it's Chain Gun TM

Oh God... It never dawned on me that DOOM is probably the source for the confusion of so many. What's worse, is that John Carmack is a person I exchange email with on a regular basis (we share some interests). I suddenly have this urge to email him like, "John, WTF were you thinking!? Why did you call it a chain gun you arse!"McCoytheGreater wrote:Oh, I'm not arguing. What? There were factual inaccuracies in a video game?!

Right now I'm having amnesia and deja vu at the same time. I think I've forgotten this before.

I think it's already happening with Medal of Honor and Call of Duty. Luckily the weapons on there are fairly accurate.Insomniac wrote:What? There were factual inaccuracies in a video game?!

Definatley 'A' the six barrels would make that some kind of minigun/gattling gun style weapon.
