Hello, I was going to do the water melon shot today as some of you know I promised.
I set up the camera and set it recording. Then I took the shot.
When I got inside to review the video I realized that the file was broken at the moment of impact. The raw file was just as bad as the youtube footage.
It is quite frustrating since it could have been an amazing piece of high speed footage.
Anyone familiar with this problem. And is there any way at all to fix the file?

Unfortunetly I dont think theres a way to fix the file, just for next time I believe this happens if you film for too long. I ran into this same problem when I filmed for about 30 seconds at 420 on the FS10. Sorry about the footage, looks like it would have been great .

Damn it! If that's the case they should supply a remote for the video function so we can trigger it right before the event.jor2daje wrote:Unfortunetly I dont think theres a way to fix the file, just for next time I believe this happens if you film for too long. I will most likely redo this shot as soon as I can and have someone else press the button.
Thanks though.

from my expierence, not with that camera, but with other cameras, it seems to do this whenever the memory card/harddrive cant accept the data as fast as the camera itself captures..
What memory card do you have in it?

I'm seriously considering selling my EX-F1 because of bugs like this. Mine like to freeze up during SD video recording and completely corrupt the file. I think you can hex edit a footer onto the file, but I'm not that savvy. It also has First Curtain flash, Laggy manual focus, no exposure meter, NOISY, etc.

Ya they should make the camera remote release capable, but you can make you own, I made a simple acrylic case that I tapped a remote release into, Im thinking of getting one of those 20' long air ones. A added benefit of building your own case is that it partially protects the camera from splatter coming of your target.

Thanks everyone.
Davidvaini: I did JUST think about that possibility. A few days ago my memory card failed and I am now using a cheap one from a digital camera. I have now ordered a new one.
Ramses: This is the first time I ever had a problem with this camera. I have learnt how it want's to be used and it makes pictures and video that much better.
jor2daje: That looks good. But since I allways use about 8x zoom (to get proper focus on videos, and to capture the projectile) splatter protection might not be needed. I can ask someone to help me out by pressing the button.
Thanks everyone. I hope this doesn't happen again!

Take a look at your camera's manual and see if it can indicate to you weather it's the card or not.
I know that on my EX-FC100, the green LED at the back will go amber during recording if the memory card can't keep up (it says this in the manual, it's never actually happened to me) If the F1 has a similar feature it should help you track down the culprit.
I'm using SanDisk Ultra II's and havn't had an issue yet.

I wonder how much deeper the ocean would be without sponges.
Right now I'm having amnesia and deja vu at the same time. I think I've forgotten this before.

It is the memory card, first sign: taking 3minutes to save a 10second clip. second sign: red flashing LED when recording (:D) and the third sign is the footage itself.Insomniac wrote:Take a look at your camera's manual and see if it can indicate to you weather it's the card or not.

I have ordered a tripod and a 20mb/s read/write card so future videos will have better camera placement and mabe higher bitrates.

Watching that explosion is impressive. It looks like my apple and water bottle impact video. It definitely has the speed up to impart that kinetic energy. BTW, what frame rate is that video? I would like to compare successive frames with the golf ball in them.

Good job, eventually I hope to have something similarjor2daje wrote:A added benefit of building your own case is that it partially protects the camera from splatter coming of your target.
I tried again, this time the hit was slightly off-center but it's still pretty cool!
Bloody right, great job!

I'd be guessing that he filmed it at 600fps... it looks too slow to be 300 and the resolution is too high to be 1200.
