I could see the media creating that story. All they need is a nosy reporter or dim-witted reader to alert them to the photo and then a few journalists will ring around asking for quotes about two Australian Olympians 'caught' posing with guns; and we all know the Port Arthur massacre was carried out by someone with guns.

Perhaps it didn't start that way, but without the media know one else would have even heard about this. It's unlikely they would have included quotes by any officials saying that what the pair did was reasonable and within their rights.

I imagine the reference to the massacre was all the journalist's doing as well.

Please don't take offense at this, but that statement shows a scary level of naivete. The modern media creates stories every day, by blowing minor issues out of all proportion, or by fabricating stories from the whole cloth. FOX in particular is guilty of that offense. Other news agencies have been caught lying, of course, but FOX is the only one so far that's actually successfully defended against a wrongful termination lawsuit for firing a reporter that wouldn't repeat a lie.

The news story is similar to what could be found on front page newspapers here with resulting interviews on current affairs programs. Media here like to hype up any act, spoken phrase or intention of a remotely-famous person that may be questionable to some people.

If you're a sports person and have your photo taken whilst out drinking, it wont leave the news for a week. Suddenly, the news (NZHerald and TVNZ in particular) will hype the story to ridiculous proportions making people feel outraged for no apparent reason.

It's just the kind of crap you get down here when there's nothing more important going on. I don't blame Murdoch in particular. It's just sloppy journalism that has come to define and dominate the news down here. It's similar to tabloids who argue what they do is "in the public's interest". No it's not, they do the best they can to try and make us take an interest because it sells papers and keeps them protected from lawsuits.

It's the same reason they publish crap articles like this once a day. Headlines like that make money. When I walk to university, I go past half a dozen of newspaper stands with ridiculous headlines. I remember one was something like "Princess Kate's Kiwi Connection" - turns out she uses a cosmetic product made from NZ honey. Which is another thing, anything remotely related to NZ from overseas will make headlines.

I was reading a long article the other day by an investigative journalist and it was written in a way that you can just tell he clearly made up/changed some of the story; whether it be the description of something or a sentence uttered by someone. I remember hearing about one article from the Guardian or something that interviewed a person who had lost their partner to an America vampire cult. When asked by the interviewer what she would say if he wanted to come back, she reportedly replied "fangs but not fangs". My ass she said that.

Yes, they play it very well too - in this case, most of the outrage seems to have been in support of your swimmer blokes, but it doesn't matter, either way it will still sell papers.

Little update on the .32 pcp project.

Finally found a decent striker spring and installed it tonight. HOLY HELL!

Had a great time relieving some stress blasting plywood and other "stuff" for a while tonight, even remembered to dig out the chrony and run a string across it to see "what" it was doing.

Ammo is oo buck run through a sizing die... ~60grains. Starting pressure was 1800 psi and finish ~600psi.

Should be able to decrease the transfer port diameter to flatten that out, which will also lower the peak...then turn down the stem a little to get some back. Will be aiming for a string starting @ ~400fps, peaking at ~450fps and falling back down to ~400fps. Will hopefully still manage 5 shots/fill.

Let the tweaking begin.

That's a lot of ft/lbs from a pistol sized pneumatic package, great stuff! If it's still moving after 5 shots, then maybe you should be using something else hehe.

For the sake of public interest, little UHMWPE cups to shoot 0.22" pellets or 0.177" buckshot should also be available

It's making more power without tuning than I thought it would, that's for sure...this is almost literally "right off the bench"...have done nothing other than find a spring with enough oomph to open the valve. There's a lot of room in there yet to improve flow. ....and lower shot count.

If it's still moving after five shots...this is heavy enough to make an effective club.

A messenger carries a message written by others, and is assumed to be blameless. FOX writes their own message, with very little regard for truth.
