01 yeah 3.8l v6 iv put a bigger throttle body, 20mm plenum spacer, 10mm intake spacer( keeps plenum chamber cool), heat shield for the intake and a hi flow panel filter in stock intake, stage 2 shift kit, pace maker extractors, high flow catalytic converter(aka took out all the crap in side them) 2 1/4'' cat back exhaust and a lsd diff conversion! fuk i spent way to much on this thing!
And yet my crappy Ford would still cream it

All niggling aside, it's been (and I expect it to remain) a reliable car.

I've been in an ex taxi BA with almost a million k's on the clock.. it wasn't perfect, but it still well.

Do you know how many kW/Nm your commonwhore is making? I'd be interested in seeing the cost of those upgrades in terms of the return.

nar standard was 167kw, im guessing 190kw thats what the VE's put out standard now and i beat them with a heavier car. would love to get it dyno'd.

The best by far was plenum spacer and intake mods, then the exhaust. Still the most fun was the lsd! nothing like doing real two wheel burnouts!

I thought they were more around the 150 mark from the factory back then? I'm thinking of doing a typhoon airbox/snorkel, hi stall and a tune done... It'd fly with that

i got that figure of some the net somewhere. yeah idk much bout fords but more air cant hurt it, wouldn't go for the stallys to much work to pull out the trans, get a shift kit.

Yeah good point, screw pulling out the transmission just for that.

Typhoon airbox is super cheap and is supposed to add 10rwkw or something. It's as close to a 0 price mod as you'll get.

I don't know if I'd bother doing a shift kit- it shifts very smoothly in auto but in perf/manual the shifts are very hard and quick as it is- not sure a shift kit would even do a lot? Plus it could stuff around with the forced kickdown (if you put your foot flat it will raise the revs up as high as possible and drop down a gear or more).

How big a job is extractors and a high flow cat converter? Assuming it's a pretty similar job between falcon/commonwhore. A swap out of extractors is supposed to net 15 rwkw or so.. +10 for the high flow cat and + 20 for a good tune would put it at about 260-270 kw at the flywheel for about 3k. Or then again, I could buy an XR6T motor/tranny and swap it out, sell the old one off, and be not too far away in terms of power for much less.

Edit: checked in with my uncle who has an XR6T, he reckons the Capatunes turn the standard 6 into a monster. He got smoked by a tuned N/A XT in his turbo at Kwinana. Says a lot when the turbo has 50 kilowatts on it stock. The XT was plain asides from the tune

Hmm...

Crna, you're wasting a lot of money with all those plenum spacers and other doodads. Get yourself a good turbo. We're getting the Series 2 L67 (American version of the ecotec 3.8) down into the high 8s in the 1/4 mile, and that's driving the wrong wheels. You can run mild boost and still make easy 13s, maybe even 12s since you're driving the right wheels.

I've got a Park Avenue, great big Buick, with the L67 and a bunch of mods. I've got a Stage1x cam from Intense, Yella Terra 1.6:1 roller rockers, SLP headers and high-flow cat, GenV Eaton blower from the Series 3, a throttle body from a Northstar, and an LQ9 MAF. Add the INTENSE-built trans, and I'm running a 13.8 in a 3900lb car on mild boost and 2.93 final drive gearing.

cant drive a turbo for 2 more years here in aus, and didn't waste cash on it i made them at work.

@inonickname, Extractors are pretty ezy if you have the right tools like lots of uni joint thing for a socket set the right size socket and a rattle gun, putting a hi flow cats piss ezy and cheep if you gut your standard one.

Shift kit still lets it drop gears but it will take from the smoothness completely make it like a whip lash machine from 1-2, rest are alright. Please don't use the tripmatic gears it will fuck ur trans quick.

Come over to WA, you can drive whatever you want on P plates

You can argue that high performance cars are bad news for P platers. Not so in my experience. I'm responsible with my car. I've got plenty of mates around my age (18-20) who drive powerful cars and are safe in them. Most of the friends I've had die have been as a result of drink driving, and one on a gravel road (and several near misses on gravel). None of them were in a fast car. (One of the close calls was, fell asleep after a 12 hour shift and put his SS into a tree. Heartbroken over wrecking his baby, but he was a lot better off hitting a tree in that than in a small car)

Restricting P platers to shit cars does nothing. It doesn't even cut down on hooning. Just means that they're doing skids and handbrake burnouts in hyundai's and magna's instead of in V8's.

Plus it's no cure for idiots. Once on a dual lane carriage way (2 lanes side by side in each direction, opposite directions separated by an island/garden) dad was overtaking a truck- all of a sudden the truck slams the brakes on (having better vision)- there was a woman coming the wrong way on the dual lane carriageway. He drops down a gear, guns the throttle and manages to overtake in time to avoid hitting the stupid bitch. Fortunately the Landy is tuned to about 170kw and 450Nm rather than the 90/300 they come out the factory with.

You can put a 5 star safety rating on a shitty little car all you want, but I know what I'd rather be in if something goes wrong.

fucken oth mate, theirs no difference in me driving a ssv or a standard v6 if i want to do stupid stuff both car will do it just the same.

my cousin had a 10 second datsun 1200 for his first car never had a accident
where my bro's first car was a crappy Nissan pulsar he smash it into the back of a car just as he turned 19. its all about the driver and the drivers around him/her not the car!

On the subject of vehicles, I'd probably be persuaded to give up my landy in exchange for one of these:
