The sad thing is that if apple actually made it, some people would buy it

Of course they would. Many in their 70's and 80's will not need a magnifier to see the screen.

Big button phones sold much better than expected too. They thought the main market was the vision impaired. It turned out the big market was shop phones. You can dial them with leather shop gloves unlike a regular phone.

There would be applications for it.

It's turned lack of features into a design statement though - lookhere, almost $5 per notebook - how much are post-it notes?

If you want a cheap no-frills reliable phone, buy a Nokia 3310 :D

Most of my peers have switched to smartphones but I was thinking of one of these...

Sonims are great!

A friend of mine has one. We tied it to a line, and then I called him. He dropped the phone in the water, and I was able to hear the boat engines and all the other noises :D

Smartphones are far too fragile for me.

Who needs a mobile phone anyways. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only person on this planet without one.

It annoys the crap out of my boss which is quite enjoyable if you ask me.

Mobile phones are AMAZING when you get one with a QWERTY keyboard for $10 and unlimited texting free with a normal family plan :D.

I recently upgraded to a smartphone running android, and while I like the android OS, I do agree with you on this point, these smart phones seems really fragile....

Ah, Lord of the Flies, it gave me my perspective on the sheeple. A wonderful book, much like The Death of Grass and 1984.

In regards to mobile phones, I've got no choice but to have at least one, we have no home line, the internet is wireless so it's also a phone.

I use an Android phone, I wouldn't use any other phone now. Mine is a rather obscure brand so accessories are a little hard to find, I'd really like a case.

The screen is the most fragile part, I use a cheap screen protector and I don't have a single scratch on the screen. (I'm on a farm, so I have a lot of odd stuff in my pockets throughout the day.)

i dropped my iphone 4 a good 2 meters into a dry well, we couldn't reach it but lucky my bro had some double sided tape in his car and his fishing rod and pulled my phone up and had a little crack in the back case. also angry birds is the shit.

By "the crap" I presume you mean it's rather good, I'd concur, Even though I'm not keen on Apple products Angry Birds HD on the iPad is rather good also.

Does anyone have experience with Java or Android programming? I'd like to try a small calculator program for mobile devices.
