That must be his inner female side
My word..
He's got a female side inside aswell??

I wonder if our cave dwelling ancestors ever considered to ban rocks...???

By what do you think I meant when I said "unlicensed" then? :tongue3:
To go back to the car analogy once more... is driving a car illegal in the UK? Hopefully not, else most of the country needs arresting. It's driving without a licence that's the offence.

It's section 5 of the 1968 Act that relates to prohibited weapons, but I've never possessed anything that falls under section 5.
Building a BBMG might be trouble though.

On a marginally related note, I'm still trying to work out what coilguns count as under UK law. The definition of a firearm is a "lethal barrelled weapon", but they don't then define "barrel" to make it possible to figure out if coils fit within that definition.
If they don't, it might be that coilguns are, like crossbows, pretty unrestricted.

Damn I miss the good old days.... 2006-2010 time period to be more exact - seems that most progress was done then. Now it's all stagnant. Most senior users spend time having pointless discussions in this thread (lol including me).

Shut up pneub!

I bought a 3D printer so I can finally start experimenting with the finer parts of my automated semi-auto cartridgeless hybrid concept.

Right now I'm printing shotglasses with it... but I swear... it's pure business from here on (and replicating itself into a bigger Delta-printer!!).

First thing is printing discarding sabot's for my current dart ammunition! This shot glass is just proof that it's finally calibrated. I can hold .05 inches tolerance pretty easily with this thing! suck on that Stratasys and 3DS!

So what are the hop-ups for 3D printers? They been out long enough haven't they...

I was kind of hoping for 3d print darts, kind of like the ones JSR made out plastic

I dont want this to sound spammy, but I made a spudgun youtube channel, and was wondering if I could get some feedback?

When I say "hop-ups" I was meaning printer upgrades. Things that would make it faster, easier to use, print more things then it is currently able to print, firmware updates ect...

jrrdw,

There are too many to list.

The main one is having the lowest mass possible on your printing head to reduce inertia between rapid movements. This is accomplished by the obvious - and also by totally unique mechanical designs. This will speed up your printing more then anything as it's currently the main limiting factor in a majority of the printers. Typically they mount the filament drive motor, hot end, extruder assembly and the carriage all on the printing head platform - this makes for a heavy mass attempting to rapidly change movement.

Properly managing heat is also a big issue - You only want the first inch or so of the filament that's being melted to actually be in the liquid stage. This requires a rather sharp thermal gradient - something people have been experimenting with extensively in the the amateur field, where exotic plastics are being extruded. This is being accomplished both by liquid cooling and the use of FEA for thermal modeling more efficiently.

Beyond that - the motors and drivers are old technology. Trimming and optimizing the code helps though!

I am getting amazing layer bonding the further I optimize my print setting - I could probably easily print you a dart sabot or 5 if you give me the sizes of the constraints (i.e. barrel and ammo).

Just pay me shipping and a tip and it's yours! Sabots will use a ridiculously small amount of plastic. Additive manufacturing really does have it's advantages when it comes to material conservation!

Have you already put that maglite mod on instructables?? If you haven't you should. You should get more views a day than it already has

I did: http://www.instructables.com/id/Co-Axia ... ic-BB-Gun/
Hack a Day wrote a article about it: http://hackaday.com/2013/03/06/this-mag ... -a-bb-gun/
and kipkay made a vid out of it and gave me a shoutout in the description:

Today I noticed the colour of the bathroom tiles in my apartment.

the fact that it took me so long to notice, and that it doesn't matter, is fantastic :)
GIVEN THIS IS A ROOM IN WHICH I SH1T AND WASH MY BALLS I DON'T SEE THAT IT'S PARTICULARLY IMPORTANT WHAT THE COLOUR SCHEME IS!!!
:D :D :D

edit: computer simulations are oddly mesmerizing:

The fragmenting cylinder really gives a good idea of how a container can be turned into a cloud of projectiles by an explosion.
