For that we have "sinterklaas" on the 5th of December.
Actually your Santa claus is a copy of our Sinterklaas.
Dutch immigrants brought it to you
Pretty much all the traditions associated with Christmas, including (but not limited to): the date, giving of presents, christmas tree, carol singing, lighting of candles, religious ritual, mistletoe and wreaths are stolen/copied from Pagan religion (or 'religions' depending on how you define Pagan, the important thing is they're not Christian). Historians seems to agree on Constatine renaming the Pagan Yule-tide holiday to Christmas when he converted the Roman empire to Christianity (which was most likely due to being able to control the entire empire with a single, new religion). My point being it's useless arguing over the origins of refined Christmas traditions when in essence Christmas is about as Christian as Hanukkah :P

Don't mean to dive in to religion here, just the origins of Christmas :D

Na, that movie is crap. It asserts many things but the research is quite poor. I might not always be 100% correct in what I assert but if I were making a movie i'd make sure of it.

For Yule-tide I got money and...some shirts. Having spent last Christmas in NY, I much prefer Christmas in Summer. Spent the day in a bach 30 feet from the beach in scorching weather.

Sort of like a basic holiday house by the beach.

I knew the origins of christmas weren't Christian.
And I like the celebrations of the old Germans much more, because they have nice bonfires :D . We have built bonfires over 10 meters (30ft)in height here.

But, what I wanted to point out is that your Santa claus was brought to you by Dutch Immigrants.

When early Christians were persecuted, they adopted a Roman pagan holiday to celebrate the birth of Jesus. That way their celebration would not bring the attention of the authorities.

This is some of the history of the Roman Holiday

Saint Nicholas and Santa came later.

It is the 3705 model - not the brushless one - however, over the summer when I get a job I am going to save up some money and buy the Velineon brushless conversion kit. I'll have to get some practice in first - 70+ MPH is awfully fast for a 1/10 scale RC truck!

Yep, built a few planes, hovercrafts, and boats... build one car a fair while back before 1/18 scale production really kicked off and I wanted a mini car.. It worked, but wasnt great..
If I had the resources to mill and machine etc then I'd build my own carbon platform touring car using the best bits from all the tourers out there.. But that will have to wait till Iv finished my degree and I have access to all those things[/quote]

Very cool !

For me, at least, the only way another hobby could compete, would be if I were "building my own".
