Blow torch compatibility

I have acquired an old blow torch from a friend and want to know if i can use any make of gas cartridge. (pro/but mix) It is currently using a taymar rf89 cartridge, could it work with the new rf 90 model or say a go gas cartridge?

You can unscrew the cartridge from the torch head. Its more the shape of the cartridge head, there doesn't seem to be gas canisters with a dome like head.

That doesn't look like it will be safe for more than 100 psi or so...

If you can find out the mix of propane and butane, the table will give you an idea of the working pressure.
Bear in mind that the disposable canister isn't designed to withhold repeated pressurisation/de-pressurisation.

I think you have the wrong idea, i dont want to use this as a chamber for a gun!
I just want to know what other gas cartidges would be suitable for replacing the one that came with this blowtorch as they don't sell this particular canister anymore.

If the threads match and the fuel is the same, it should work. Flammable gas containers have their own weird system of threads.
I don't know. Try it and find out.

The torch is straight butane. I had one of those about 30 years ago. They were unpopular as they did not work in cold weather so they were useless for thawing frozen pipes or cold weather camping. If you can make an adapter you may be able to run it off a butane lighter refill can. As far as fuel goes, you will get a much hotter flame and lower cost by simply buying a modern Propane torch.
It is time to retire the antique. If you check a well stocked camp supply outfit you might be able to find the screw top butane, but most have gone to the newer push on butane cans.
Some backpackers prefer butane as the cans are much lighter.

With a close search for the various brands, you may still find some butane with the threaded top.

Thanks for the info, il probably get a modern one if its a better option. I didn't pay anything for this blowtorch anyway.
