Looking for reusable adhesive for rounds

Hey all..

The best way to explain this concept is with a movie reference. I'm assuming most people have seen the dark knight, so I'm looking for an adhesive similar to what he shoots out of his gun. Not the explosive part, but the adhesive part. I'm not looking for something that expands so much, but something that will stick to surfaces very strongly, hold around 1 or 2 ounces of weight.

Does anyone have any ideas on a substance that could be used.. i.e. a putty or the like?

no. none of the above. this isn't an airsoft gun. I said 1 to 2 ounces, not .12 grams.

I explained its purpose pretty well. Also, please don't double post.

I think your best bet is to do some research on squash head rounds.

What about a similar adhesive to what's used in sticky grenades, I believe the British used them.

Edit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sticky_bomb

Reedit: they use birdlime an adhesive used for trapping birds

That's what forums are for :)

I don't think spider cum is going to help...

The thing is sticky grenades were meant to be placed or at worst thrown against their intended targets, I don't think the same materials will be suitable for a relatively high velocity projectile.

Depends how fast its going because splash could disperse a soft sticky substance messily and uselessly.

But I'd think along the lines of:

1) An extremely sticky substance (so where can you buy bird lime?)

2) A fibrous mass which the adhesive can cling to and resist dispersion on impact... say a ball of knitting wool

3) Some kind of frangible shell which keeps the adhesive from causing merry hell to the launcher, perhaps also protects from dispersal in flight and shatters on impact.

I tried this with a VERY VERY sticky pile of old "Flarp" a kids toy meant to resemble slime.

This stuff had spoiled, and was too sticky to remove from my hands without solvent.

After placing it into a sabot, and shooting it with a 1.9'' porting cannon at 100psi, it shattered, and came out the barrel in TINY droplets.

Your largest problem will be finding something that is sticky, and can withstand the launch force.

On a side note: the flarp was recovered from the target, where it did massive damage, but had lost almost all of its stickiness. (Do to being dried out by the massive amount of air, me thinks.)

Squash head, or HESH rounds wiki:
HESH ammunition has good general purpose use being effective against most targets, though the round is generally used at relatively lower velocities because high velocity excessively disperses the pat of substance.

The key word is relatively.

A L31 120mm HESH round has a muzzle velocity of 670 metres per second, that's almost 2200 feet per second. Somehow I doubt JDP12 is going that high ;)

Some how i forgot that firearms shoot things so damned fast, good catch.

I do know that the "flarp" i mentioned.... seemed to behave more like a non-Newtonian fluid, when shot out of my cannon. blowing to pieces before it was able to leave the muzzle.

Possibly A more thicker "liquid" might work better?
i used the term liquid loosely here, as i imagine something like a soft clay.
