It's his mum, trying to boost his self esteem to make up for the fact that he's a soul-less freckled ginger.

Racist! Shit...

Umm... bully! :D

I'm surprised the people leaving comments don't realise it is the mother replying. They think they're chatting with some hilarious little kid. Someone should link that video in the comments speaking of which.

Let me explain jailbreaking a bit more.

By default, apple phones can only install software that has been digitally signed by apple. People who write apps, and other software for the iphone, must have it "signed" or approved by apple, before the iphone/ipod will run the software. There is some VERY good software, that the giant money making company, apple, just wont aprove... as it would take away from there profits.

The benifits, even for your wife's 3G phone... are immense. for instance... the iPhone 4 has a very nice camera... but the resolution is limited by the software. There is unsigned 3rd party software, you can get for free... that unlocks the full potential of the camera. Apple also as a "Camera +" app.... it runs $12 USD.

Jailbreaking, simplified, removes the need for software to be digitally signed. This allows the user to install 3rd party software, that apple would not approve.

Apple, is not fond of people jailbreaking their phones, and it does void your warranty. A court ruling (i belive the supreme court) states that users do have a RIGHT to jailbreak, if they so choose.

"Cydia" is the app store for jailbroken iDevices, it contains literally millions of non apple approved apps.

A less legal benefit...it is also possible... through more 3rd party apps... to install apple "paid" apps... for free. much like pirating a DVD, or a program.

The process of jailbreaking your phone... is quite easy. Plug the phone into a PC or Mac... run a jailbreaking program... there are a few. boom. done.

The only downside... is that all future operating system updates for the phone, must be done with the jailbreaking program, not itunes.

As for the voided warranty....if your phone breaks... plug it back into the computer... and use the jailbreak program to "Unjailbreak" in one click.

Google will show you many video tutorials on how to jailbreak your phone. The whole process takes 15 minuets. Earlier, in a previous post, i said it was "quite the process" because you need to be sort of tec handy.... and will need to know the current firmware version of your phone. (easy to find in the "settings" on the phone.)

the android equivalent of jailbreaking is called "Rooting"

any more questions, feel free to ask.

I've had the Galaxy SII for a couple of months and it is pretty amazing, very fast, the AMOLED screen is very good, on board memory is already 16gb, not that I was really looking for a camera phone, the image quality is actually very good, beets my actual camera in video mode.
I'd definitely recommend it.

Technically an unlocked phone permits switching carrier, such as using something besides AT&T in the US.

Jailbreak means unlocking the phone protections completely so you can install your own software and it can be installed from anywhere, not just the Apple iTunes store. Apple does not permit apps in the store that compete with their offerings. Say for example you want to run Firefox or Chrome for a web browser instead of Safari.. Jailbreak.

Maybe you want a portable tethered WiFi hotspot for your netbook.. Not in Apples store.. Sorry.. Jailbreak!

After you jailbreak, it is not a good idea to go to apple for software updates and patches.

Jailbreak has it's own issues too. Malware and spyware from third parties are issues. Don't use a jailbroken phone for online banking.. ever.
