I had one of these.

Not very accurate, but if that's all I had and I needed to hold off a charging watermelon or a rabid herd of zucchini squash it would be welcome tool.

@Demon. All true but only in a survival need, not for fun or to be cruel.

Sorry if my reply to this post offends anyone.

Most members won't find it offensive, myself included, but from the forum rules:
Discussion of shooting anything at any person and/or animal is prohibited, and may result in a permanent banning of your account.

1. The exception to this rule is for proper use of legal airsoft and/or paintball markers.
Also, the original post belongs in the off-topic thread.

Ok I went back and took out any reference to engaging an animal just so I don't get in trouble with the admin

I remember seeing these in the Henry gun catalog many years ago. I don't really have time to watch a 15min video, but how much are these going for?
They were $200 back then which was still kind of a steal even for the shear portability factor.
If you're in a survival situation you're probably not going to be after large game (which is usually taken from a distance), so I figure merely decent accuracy is acceptable. Even though it doesn't have much stopping power, with an 8 round mag is should still be useful in a pinch.

One concern is their reliability, I don't have one and won't have one, but I haven't heard good things about it.

Matty, don't regard .22lr, it may look and feel like a cap gun, but it's at least a bit lethal. Anyway we all can't afford to (the rules) with a .50BMG or .338 (both banned), we have to buy .510DTC down here.

not sure on how reliable but i just love the simplicity and how compact it can become, a good thing is that its really light and floats when dropped in water :)

That said, the Germans certainly had more style when it came to survival weapons for their aircrews ;)

I learned to shoot on a little Savage 330(something), anyway a 20in barreled .22lr on a 20 gauge. Brilliant little gun, quite accurate and because it was fairly light the 20 gauge shells used to kick a bit (for an 8 year old anyway).

Anyway, small breakdown rimfires FTW.
