Is spudfiles going to be down tomorrow for the black out protest? Just wondering, because Pipa/Sopa is trying to censor the internet, and if its not going to be blacked out, then we should at least not post tomorrow.

Thousands if not millions will notice a wikipedia/cheeseburger/reddit etc. blackout.

At best, a couple of hundred people will notice a spudfiles blackout.

I don't see the point of inconveniencing spudfilers.

Google is in on the protest already. They still work, but the home page is obvious.

If spudfiles does not do anything particular in protest, maybe we can illegally copy others work as I have done below.

Technically the photo posted below is enough for Google to take down the entire Spudfiles site due to the copyright violation of posting the following photo. I presume it is a copyrighted photo.

If that legislation any site displaying a photo, sound, movie, text, etc without the copyright owner's permission, the site could be shut down. This would black out most of the current web as we know it.

Have you ever posted a logo, photo, quoted text, etc on a social site? If so, they could be taken out of service if that law passes. Goodby Google News, Craigslist, Ebay, Spudfiles, MySpace, Linkedin, Facebook, etc, anyplace users can post text, photos, video clips, sounds, or anything copyrighted by someone else. This is bad legislation and needs stopped.

I considered taking SpudFiles down, however the minor impact as compared to the larger sites made me decide it probably wasn't worth it.

YouTube is heavily sponsored by the very people who want SOPA passed. Same with Digg, they will never do this because they are paid by those who want SOPA.

Youtube gives the industry God rights to kill videos on the site. This came to light recently in the very recent MegaUpload video scandal.

The industry had Zero rights to take down MegaUpload's video, but the industry took it down anyway without needing to file a takedown notice. This is the rights that these bills will provide. If you don't give industry the rights to kill postings on your website, your entire site can be knocked off-line as a result.

Either you delete the offending posts, give the industry God Mod power, or expect to be taken completely off-line for piracy.

Wasn't there something about how it could shut down foreign sites with servers or something in America? Or maybe it just stops people in the U.S. from visiting foreign sites with copyright infringement.

It's based on DNS filtering only, isn't?

well if that's the case would it affect anyone outside of the USA?

EDIT

Tech, I'm beginning to wonder if we think alike.

If I had opened the sopa thread a little earlier my tabs would have been almost identical.

doubledoublepost

Hmm, ok to add something useful to this otherwise double post,
I guess now that I've copied tech's screenshot, he could have spudfiles/photobucket shut down because of my copyright infringement(?). Wow, the amount of pettiness this law could spawn is almost inconceivable.

Spudfiles has nothing to worry about because it's members would never ever do anything against copywrite laws here....would you?
