As so many of you wanted to see pictures of my workshop, here they are.

I named the place "Jake's cave", but actually its 2 places. First is my "blacksmith shop" and the second is my data/ham/leatherworking/random working place (AKA my room :D )

Is that an induction forge, or gas?

As long as there is hardly a square foot of workbench space visible, I approve.

Care to share any details about your furnace? I've always wanted a propane-burning one but never got around to any solid research to see what the best design is. Also do you use that oven for tempering?

I put up a girls and power tools calender in the office where my mom works but she took it down for some reason :?
You should have a calender of chicks with swords and knives, however. Might be more appropriate yet still findable.

Dalton: its a gas forge

Fnord: the burner is actually modded Kosan and that pipe is for hot air gun to give it more air, currently finding parts for a venturi-burner to get some welding heats out of this thing, this gives me only 1100c :?

And D-Hall: this anvil is made by Lokomo, the best anvils ever made. Its very old, and this exact anvil was used by a master blacksmith

EDIT: and yes, i sometimes use the oven for tempering, when the customer want's a very exact hardness to their blades, normally i do the tempering by feeling the heat, watching colors and trying how easy it burns my finger's. Normally i use the the oven for making coffee :DDDDD

Very nice thread, do you forge your knives from a round bar of bohler steel?
Yeah, it's that important.

Basicly yes, Wr 1.2210 is basically same thing as bohler 460, and its sold in round bars.

But its not the only steel i use. 0.8% pure carbonsteel is good steel too, when annealed and heat treated fine. Wr 1.2210 doesnt even need to be annealed, its very strong steel

jsefic: no, its not a went. Its just made from a ventilation pipe :D it collects the dust´s, no needs for any ventilating machines

Fnord, there isn't a square foot in my whole shed, let alone the bench.

Jake, today I went to a gun/hunting show, there was these knives which I'm certain were puukkos, but the bloke selling them said "They are made by farmers on the Swiss border with Finland, they use whatever materials they have available".

When I saw the pictures of your puukkos, I knew I'd like them, after handling half a dozen of them, I know I like them. A lot. And these aren't half as nice as yours, and far more expensive.

And I like your shop too.

Nice cave Jake. Really liking the anvil base....looks "proper". :)

If you're looking for "welding heat", have you looked into the various Reil and Mongo style burners? You can apparently MELT iron with a modified reil burner. 8)

In the event you've not seen this page...
