rocket fuels/bottle rockets

before i get into it, i would like to ensure if this topic wouldn't violate the rules... I am not planning on initiating the propellant from inside the barrel of a potato cannon (as rule 3 specified the propellant to being inside a potato cannon). If this is topic could end up being a violation, could a moderator please inform me.

I have had some success making solid state potassium nitrate rockets, but would like some help in the construction of some bottle rockets for the fourth of july. Would it be more effecient/safer to run the fuse to the pyrotechnic externally or internally of the rocket engine. The two designs i was thinking of was would be having a single tube design with a neutral packing between rocket and pyrotechnic, or having two seperate tubes with a fuse running from the end of the rocket to the pyrotechnic. I know the single tube will end up being more reliable, but the double tube would be safer... suggestions?

Also, i am currently making my rocket fuel by melting the proportional amount of sugar and potassium nitrate and allowing it to cool (this way, i don't have to have sulfur in the hot mix, which would make the mixture very unstable), then smashing up the crystals and mixing the powder with sulfer powder. any suggestions/ better methods to make the fuel

Google for a guy by the name of Richard Nakka. His site will have EVERYTHING you want to know about sugar based rockets.

Beyond that, rest assured that what you're doing is almost certainly illegal.

D_Hall gave you good info there...

This is not the place for solid rocket fuel discussion.
