*** DICLAIMER*** I am not responsible for your actions, you should be aware at all times that these are dangerous if use incorrectly and may lead to injury or possibly even death! You are trying this at your own risk!***DISLAIMER***

Now that that's out of the way. This thread will tell you how to make smokebombs.

Materials Needed

Lighter
Stove
Large pot able to be put on the stove
Wooden Spoon
Sugar
Measuring Cup
Tree Stump Remover (can be found in Lowe's and Walmart in the garden section)(Potassium Nitrate/saltpeter will also work since it's the same thing)
Hammer

Optional
Fuse

Not all materials listed are in the picture.

How to make

Open your Stump Remover and put about 1 and 1 half cups of it in the measuring cup.
Image

Now, add about a cup of sugar to it.
Image

Now you want to pour the contents into the pot and stir it up good and even.

Than you put it on the stove and put it on Medium-High Heat.
Image

Keep sturring the contents slowly every 30 seconds or so, if you stir it too fast some could go ove the edge of the pot and onto the stove and catch fire!

Over the next many minutes it will start to form clumps, this is what you want, keep sturring.

Now, once it gets peanut butter looking and thick like in the picture below take the pot off the stove and take it outside.
Image

Now, take your spoon and scoop out several amal clumps onto the concrete or road or whatever. You could form them all into one huge clump also.
Image
Now, if you have any fuse stick it in the clump while it's still hot, you don't have to use fuse but it's safer that way.

Now, wait about 30 minutes until the stuff is cool and give tham a small knock with a hammer and you will be able to pick them right up. Npw your ready to light them, just light the fuse if you have any but if you don't, hold the lighter up to the edge of the clump for about 10-20 seconds, it will catch fire, just have patienece.

Personally, lighting it all on fire at once is amazing and spectacular, the smoke cloud is huge! I definately reccomend doing that.

NOTE, don't try to cook an insane amount at once, we tried that and as I said it caught fire and we had to paint our walls, get a new stove, and replace the kichen floor.

Enjoy.

EDIT:Last 2 pics don't work for some reason, but just copy and paste them to see the smoke bomb in action!

Here's the last 2 pics.

Note that that was just one small lump of that stuff, all of it at once is so amazing though.

I don't know if this is against rules but most people know about that stuff.

It shouldn't be against the rules, I think it's using solid stuff for propellents.

I tried doing that before. I ended up getting 2nd and 3nd degree burns on my hands, as well as some 1st and 2nd on my face, arms and neck.
Long story short, a hotplate is very important while doing this. And if it starts smoking, don't try to remove the heat, just run like hell.

Some types of stump remover aren't KNO3. Bonide is one of those. Check on the back label, and it should say "warning, contains potassium nitrate". Also, the KNO3 will dissolve in water much easier than the other types.

Smoke bombs don't have to be melted together. They work just fine in the powdered form, they just flame more and burn up faster. I usually take a piece of paper and tape it into a little cup, fill it with my smoke mix and tape it shut with some fuse stuck inside.

Usually it is best to measure things like this out by weight, but since this is such a forgiving mixture it doesn't matter a whole lot. But, the ideal mix for smoke bombs is 50:50 by weight.
Particle size also matters when it's dry. I usually use powdered sugar, and since my KNO3 is fairly fine, I don't bother grinding it up any more.
The addition of sulfur (about 10% by weight) will also improve the performance. Sulfur is pretty easy to get, either in a pharmacy or from the garden center (sold as "dusting sulfur").

Can't you melt down the sugar and add the KNO3 to the melted goo? I've heard that works just as well.

Yeah, that would be smart, and reduce the risk.. I think if the sugar is still very hot you could add the KNO3 (off of the stove)

Good instructions, but HOLY COW you should NEVER heat that indoors! Your going to burn your house down, once that starts flaming up good luck trying to put it out.

Yeah, inside? Not the smartest thing to do, I'd have to say.
But it's a great How-To! :D Probably because it gives the right measurements and shows the different stages of melting.

Edit:
Random idea that MIGHT ACTUALLY work! (I doubt it)
Try adding lithium chloride or powdered copper to the mix and see if it burns red or green.

noname, yes that would work for colors. However the toxicity of the smoke becomes questionable when you do that.
