I am in boyscouts and we do an event every year called the Klondyke Dirby. We Hike three miles in the snow to shaver lake's Camp Chawanakee while pushing old outdated wooden sleds loaded with various items that amout to about 600-800LBS per sled (we usually bring Two or three) Anyways I got tired of pushing every yar, so I built a gas powered all steel sled. It has a Kawazaki 200 streetbike engine that I got for 100 bucks, all it needed to run was a spark coil and it started right up. This thing has six gears and the way I have it geared it tops out at about 15 MPH in sixth gear. I built and designed and tested this at my house. It took about 120-130 hours to get to where it is now. Im going to paint it soon.

Looks cool. I think it would make a better gokart though.

The engine is detachable, and will work on my offroad go kart and the origanal motorcycle it came in.

Looks good but I don't think it would do too well in powder. $100 dollars is't too bad but you can usually find an old snowmobile for a $200-300.

ummmm this may seem like a stupid question, but how you steer it? i would buy one if i lived in the snow, but it snowed every 35 years were i am!

Simple machines vs. manual labor. I love it. Looks vet nice and effective, though would your scoutmaster allow you to bring it? If they don't like you bringing ipods to camp, then I don't think they would like a motorized sled. BTW, what rank are you?

My scoutmaster loved the idea of it and so does everyone else at the camp ( other than the usual one or two guys that think that tradition is more important. I just say screw you, your just jealous because you could never build anything like it 8) )
Oh to_live, to answer your question, i just push the handlebars one way or the other. That motor assembly is attached to the sled via a trailer hitch :D
Oh, also, im fifteen and im still first class, because im so damn lazy, or busy building things like this :)

There classes, dang glad i never joined. before i thought it was just a get together to go hug tree's.

OK but seriously i really like it. i bet you get there an hour before the other gus with it. My parents want me to make something thats not a spud gun. next time they ask ill say can i make a sled powered by a bike engine? when they say no ill scream yay I'm going to make a new spudgun!

im in scouts too, lol at klondike, where we go, is a large bowl and we just ride our sleds down the hill meanwhile piling our whole patrol on it. Then, at the bottom we have a large guy in our patrol named Derrick, who for your information is always unobjecting, pushes it uphill again.

yeah, scouts isn't as bad as i is portrayed to be. we don't go around hugging trees, im about as oppasite as you can get from a tree hugger. This year im even bringing a few guns to shoot snow and make a reak snowball fight!!

Looks great for working, but i think speed and ajility are out of the question. There should be a ghetto award for small engines, you would when for this.
