I have a 5-year old, 2002 Dell Dimension 8200. It has 80 GB memory and 512 KB of RAM... it has held up pretty well to the abuse of five years of constantly being on.

Mine has a 100 GB HD and 2 megs of ram

Cooling: Tower112 heatpipe cooler with 2x80mm 34cfm fans, 2x120mm 54cfm case fans
Thermaltake SViking case w/ fan controller and temp display

Overclocks:
CPU @ 262x11 for 2.87 GHz, Voltage set to 1.450v x 110% (cpuz reads 1.536v). Idles around 89F(32C), around 113F(45C) under full load. Chipset voltage is at 1.6V.
RAM@ 9:10 ratio, 221.7MHz, 2-2-2-5-11 timings (extremely low... ), 3.2V.
GFX@ 575MHz / 1.15GHz.


New system that I'm gradually piecing together:

AMD Windsor AM2 5200+ dual core (2.6GHz stock, aiming for 3.0GHz OC)
2GB OCZ DDR2 PC8000 @ 4CAS
2x 74GB 10kRPM Raptors in RAID0 for OS and programs
2x 500GB 7200RPM WD's in RAID1 for file storage and backup
GeForce 8800GT(x)OC
Thermaltake Armor case
Going with air (heatpipe) cooling for now, might put together a water cooling kit around Christmas....

I don't like to shell out the huge bucks for cutting-edge (FX, Extreme Edition CPUs, etc...) hardware. Instead, I like to buy high-end but not cutting-edge hardware, and overclock the crap out of it I can almost always get this type of hardware to meet or exceed the specs of the $800 CPUs with proper cooling and enough time.
Overclocking is a science and an art. It's best done very gradually and methodically. It takes a lot of patience, but it's a lot of fun to tune your PC to it's exact sweet spot. If done properly, it shouldn't reduce the lifespan of the hardware significantly or cause any noticeable instability.

The new system I'm building should run well under $1k USD if I wait for the parts I'm after to go on sale. Beat that price anywhere else

i have 5 macs in the family. i have a g4 imac, a g3 imac, an emac, and my dad has a g3 imac, and a mini. if i get the proper grades i get a macbookpro!

on the subject of macs, i worked at a mac repair shop all of ast summer, and made... enough.... money, so i know my sh*t when it comes to macs.

yes. im going to let pete sit here cause hes pretty 1337. my only gripe bout macs is you cant really upgrade much. but then again, you dont really have to, its fine strait from box.
