i have a question.

Has anyone ever tried to make a knife or bayonet or as some call it a shank?

I am going o try for my new bbmg im making and i am going to try and make a SA80 bayonet Image

So yeah any advice would be appreciated.

Oh i'm sorry if this kinda stuff isn;t allowed on this site.

edit- the point of the bayonet is to stab watermelons in close quarters not to hurt anyone or anything.

I guess there are two ways that could easily be done if you have the right tools.

1. Get a normal kitchen knife and sharpen and shape to your needs and swap out the grip.

2. Make the knife from some sheet metal and shape it to your needs, then buy a old grip or a cheap replacement one.

yeh i was thinking of making it by cutting it out of sheet metal and then making a handle out of wood.(not as detailed though.)

edit- well jack i could but seeing as i live in australia "land of the banned airsoft and bb guns." luckily knives arent ilegal. get the aussie dollar which compared to the GBP sucks. I have 35 Aussie dollars and i might be able to make this work with my parents if i save up 100 dollars ( i.e. they buy it for me i pay them 100 dollars.). I need a job. i'm 14 but i look sixteen. so ill just get a job at maccas. 12 bucks an hour.ooh yeh.

Quenching or tempering is the act of heating up metal untill it glows, then rapily cooling it in some cold water to harden the metal. This can be done at home with a el-cheapo butane torch or equivalent. Have a closer look here.

You will have to be careful about tempering because although it will make the knife very hard, but it will be extremely brittle. But if your just stabbing watermelons, the brittleness would not be a problem, though you wouldnt need to temper it any way...

well ok i might temper it instead, it needs to be hard, but ya need a bit of flex in it or it will snap in your target* gotta get the balance right between the two(Strength & Flex). so yer tempering might be a better option for me.
