buying an airsoft gun

i have finally decided that i need some form of secondary airsoft gun i can use to take out targets at 150+ft without having to blanket the area with thousands of vortex gun rounds. so i pretty much have it narrowed down to two guns

<a href="http://www.airsplat.com/Items/ER-XL-AK47-0511.htm">the JG SVD Dragunov</a>

or

<a href="http://www.airsplat.com/Items/AR-UTG-AWP-368B.htm">the UTG L96</a>

the SVD can fire fully auto becuase its an AEG but its only about half the range (well effective range) as L96. the figures on airsplat are way off for some reason the reports i got from people who own them are...

L96

range -300ft (.3g BB)
velocity - 380fps (.3g BB)
fire mode - bolt action (spring)
clip capacity - 30 BBs
upgrade parts - some, but hard to find/ import

SVD

range - 150ft (.2g BB)
velocity - 330 to 350fps (.2g BB)
fire modes - semi and full auto
clip capacity - 250 BBs (high cap)
upgrade parts - lots and readily available

so which one should i get? or do both of these guns suck? im willing to spend $100 to $150 on one so if anyone know of a crazy insane gun in that price range i would be willing to consider it... but remember its meant to be a long range weapon

if i where you for safe measures i would go with the svd. if it is a crappy gun you wouldnt have wasted too much money and if its decent and very upgrade able you can put like $75 into it and have an effective aeg sniper rifle. although the l96 isnt much more expensive. the problem with that would be if its not too good and could use an ugrade it will be hard to find parts. my vote would be the svd.

The best the svd can cover is a 100 ft. area with auto fire, but if you want to snipe effectivley, get the L96. Those are awesome. What I'm saying is, do you want to take out multiple targets in a short amount of time without being seen, or do you want to lay cover fire from a good range. For cover fire, get the SVD, for the long distance, multiple targets, get the L96. BTW put up a poll so people can answer the question without posting.

ya but with not too much money in ugrades im sure it can come competitively close or ever better than the l96. and if it does get ugraded to atleast 250 foot range the other advantage would be it having a 250rd. capacity and it being electric meaning almost no manual labor. lol.

but the dragonov. or mabey the UTG m14, an upgrade spring, and a scope.

the dragonov is hard to mount a scope to.

think of it this way. if you miss with the L96 (wich i have fired, and i have to say its kinda crappy) you have to cock it again, which in that time your target is proboably gone. with the AEG sniper, if you miss, well, just shoot again........... or switch it to full auto.......

well i got a scope already and the website i buying this stuff from also sells <a href="http://www.airsplat.com/Itemdesc.asp?Ca ... 47&eq=&Tp="> ak-47 scope mounts</a> which should fit on the SVD pretty nicely

i think im also going to buy a m120 spring (pushes the fps to the 380 range), a titanium full tooth piston (cause the stock one will get stripped pretty quickly with the m120), and a 6.02 tight bore (increases accuracy and fps)

i got a kick outta that one VH_man... i dont know why though... ... ya thats my point. utg sniper files arent very upgradeable at all. and some arent upgradeable. and an electric sniper rifle just seems to go hand-in-hand. electric (which means no need to waste time cocking) and (with upgrades) accuracy. two things that i think define an airsoft sniper rifle. ease of use and accuracy.

If only you had a higher budget. The Classic Army M24 SOCOM is the best airsoft sniper I have ever had the thrill of shooting. The L96 feels kind of cheaply built, and i'ts heavy. (10 lbs) The SVD is a fairly accurate gun, plus it has the advantage of full auto. If it's quality you are looking for, withough emptying you wallet get this http://www.airsplat.com/Items/AR-WELL-MB01BSB.htm

This is by FAR the best sniper under $150 I have shot yet. It includes a scope and a bipod too. And with that much power (500 fps with a .2g BB), people will know when they get hit.

Go to hobby tron and look through their airsoft snipers, they have good guns, i reccomend the Super 8 for starters, it about 80 bucks and its upgradeable.

Dude go with the SVD, airsoft wouldn't be balls on acuate at 200 feet with little wind anyway. So a single shot sniper with less power is not as good i think.

alabaster do you airsoft? and do you know what your talking about? the well L96 has more power than quite a few TM aegs (stock of course). the svd doesnt have much power or accuracy but with upgrades it can be a good gun.

First off, Airsplat is a horrible airsoft retailer, go with somewhere like hotspot or somewhere with a good reputation. Don't trust their "specifications"

UTG is a pretty crappy company. The L96 shoots well out of the box, I'll admit, but it has no chance for upgrades. If you want to hold your own against AEGs that can go fully auto you need closer to 500-550 FPS with .2s

Jing Gong isn't much better than UTG. You'll likely have to replace the motor, upgrade the spring, go to metal bushings, get a new spring guide if you hope for your gun to last and reach out that far. (Just to get it working reliable)

In the short, buy a used Tokyo Marui or Classic Army, pre-upgraded would be better.

its on ebay.

Mishkan is right, UTG dont work to great.

Mishkan is wrong, i buy from airsplat and it gets here in two days with standard shipping and i am a loyal customer. i bought a WE 1911 and it kicks @$$ in every way possible, it shoots just as hard as they said it did.

i hear that Echo 1 is fairly good, but ive never used one.

the thing is i will still be carrying around my vortex gun i just want something that wont send out 100 bbs every time i pull the trigger no matter how short of a burst i do. i want something that i can shoot like 5 to 10 shots and take someone out with at 150ft, anything less than that ill use my vortex (now that it can finally shoot in a straight line with it)

i have bought from airsplat before without problems (twice) and the problem is no place else has the selection that airsplat does. the plan is to buy a decent gun and put $100 - 150 in upgrades into it (over time.. well probably as stuff breaks :D )

i might buy from airsoft GI but they don't have the scope mount bracket and i hate paying extra for shipping... well i probably will they seem to have a better upgrade parts selection

There are better retailers, I've heard way too many horror stories from Airsplat to ever use them. And there are places that have the same if not better selection (maybe not of the cheap crap)

Hotspotairsoft.com
Uncompany.com (overseas so shipping is extra obviously, but you end up paying shipping either way)
airsoftatlanta
Are reputable retailers

Look through places like:
Airsoftforum.com
arniesairsoft.co.uk
airsoftclassifieds.com
or other airsoft communities within your area for used guns.
