weed eater motor bike help

ok heres the deal just got this kick ass weedeater motor out of the trash down the street (the guy through it out because the rip cord pulled out and he was baffled as to why thats happened) so he throws it out. you know me being me i go get it tear it down and put a new rip cord in (easy fix) runs like a dream. my plan is to make a motor bike i think my plan is ingenius but if not please let me know. i have a bike rack that goes up and over the rear wheel on the bike so i will mount the motor directly over the wheel and run a chain straight down to the sprocket. all i need is some help on the hp to torque ratio and the gears i will need thancks alot!

you'll have to like a 8 to like 80-100 ratio, since the bike wheel is so large and there is so much torque required to turn it. there is a ton of web sites devoted to these kinds of things, you should google for one

It will work but you won't go fast. Maybe 20mph tops. They just aren't that powerful I'm doing the same thing with a chainsaw. If you are using a bike that has gears then you could just attach the engine inbetween your legs and use the bike chain. That way you can switch gears in the rear. And if not then I wouldn't go too small but not too big. Maybe like a 25t or 30t

What you should do is make a portable outboard boat motor. Don't ask me how... but it sure would be cool!

Sorry this is off topic a little bit but what number size chains are chains on bikes usually? Cause I can only really find centrifigal clutches online that fit #35 chain. Will it really matter if its a tiny bit off? Won't the chain eventually just wear down the teeth so it fits better.

craigslist I saw a couple of them on there because my friends putting an engine on a wheelchair too.

rather than putting such a small engine on a bike, wouldnt it be better to put it on one of those scooters with the 12'' diameter wheels? you would get more speed than on a bike.

they have kits you can buy to do this but if you want to do it yourself use a friction drive its nice and simple

Put the handle inbetween your toes, raise your leg; then thrust down harddoes anyone know how to kick start a weedeater instead of pulling?

If you have the motor mounted on the bike/scooter, you could push start it. Ideally, you would have a way to disengage it. You would run, jump on it, and drop the clutch, thus engaging it and starting the engine.
I would suggest a spindle drive and either having it mounted on a hinge or have an engine that has a centrifugal clutch. That way you can disengage the engine from the wheel. For the spindle, you can either machine it from bar stock...or just use a bike peg like 90% of the people.
Hooking a throttle up will be easy, just remove the old throttle and replace it with a bike brake lever and cable.
I'd highly suggest using a 12in scooter for this though. A bike will go to slow and not have much room for the stuff without mounting it high.
