Hi all,
about 3 days ago I bought a cheap brad nail gun from Fleabay and have sucsessfully modified it so that instead of firing a burst of air behiend a piston, it just fires the birsts of air. it is easy, simple to do and can all be done with just one allen key all you have to do is take off the four bolts ontop of it, open it up and take out the plunger that is in the cylinder and there you have it.

I had some aluminium pipe laying around so I used that as the barel which I made a bushing from polymorph so that the smaller barrel could fit inside the bigger cylinder. this also reduced dead space.

UPDATE!! NOW A VID!!

Image
penetration of some of the cans may seem not as good as described but it is because There is nothing holding the cans against anything so they just fly away which causes wasted energy. As I have said I have go a regular wood screw to easily sail through two cans (four sides) with a brick placed ontop of the cans.power is immense, could be easily used for a paintball sniper, airsoft sniper or pellet gun. ATM i am only using tissue paper as wadding and firing screws at cat food tins and it easily penetrates two cans (four sides) but havent tried it with more and just as JSR found out that it was TOO powerful for his famous blow-forward and broke it, it could be easily made into a marble/ballbearing cannon

I did however manage to get a .223 cartrige filled with sand to sail through some 1" ply wood and another 1" piece of particle board/whetabix board.

should be getting a bb barrel soon so I can then fire bbs steel bbs and air rifle pellets

what do you guys think of this cannon?

thanks Dave

BTW added a vid showing some cool slow motion and the emense firepower and recoil that this launcher has

haha yeah altough I intend to use this like a rifle so I thought that if I got a steel plate and drilled four holes corresponding to the four on the back of the nailgun, then just figure a way of either adding an m4 stock or making a "sniper" stock like the barrett m82 a1 I think that is what it is ( the .50 cal sniper) I cant be arsed to look it up
:p

Thanks Dave

Can you hold in the trigger and have it olny give one short burst of air? Like semi auto? I wonder what the mec inside of it looks like.
You can tell how awesome a cannon is by the pressure used.

That is interesting you say that but if you hold the trigger then you get a really powerful burst of air and then a slow blow (sounds wrong) of air. all of the mechanism can be found in my other post about whether it would be worth while making this cannon altough it is a simple coaxal, the cylinder moves but is better explained in this pose and the comments to it

glad I can help

a barrett M82A1 would be sick, but an AS50* would be better because its made by Accuracy International (a British company :D )

ALIHISGREAT: dudee. Sweet. Next thing you see are advanced spudguns on future weapons. "Spudguns, the future of civilian defence. Cheap, relatively easy to manufacture and best of all, it can operated by almost ANYONE." :D

I think that melon would be dead :D
Just like a handgun, power nailers fire projectiles at high speed -- some designs launch nails at speeds reaching 1,400 feet per second (427 meters per second).
Any idea how powerful your gun was? it might say on the box, or in the instruction booklet.

Anyway, how about a magazine?

trollhameran

no idea about the power because I got it seccond hand there was only the box but I think that it wouldnt be the MOST powerful beause it is a barad nailer and not a normal one because a brad one is only used for framing ect

magazine will be coming soon, need to get a suitable barrel though

thanks Dave

Nice mod!

You might try sticking a powerful magnet to the barrel near the nailer, then just roll a BB (or two or three) into the barrel and let the magnet hold it in place. The perfomance will drop without any wadding but (1) it sounds like the gun preforms pretty darn well and (2) you'll be able to fire it much faster.

Perhaps make a breech from a compression T that matches your hunk of pipe?

yeah I intend on getting a .177 or airsoft sized barrel because I would use it more like a pellet gun

Nice, glad you actually went through with the build :)

It's a shame to keep it single shot though, like this it's just a lazy man's piston launcher...
