yes this will work i made one just like that i even used super glue instead of pvc solvent. But for power use a sprinkler valve.I just noticed you posted this in the wrong place.

This should be in the Discussion, not Showcase section, but don't worry, you're not the first person to do it by far. I'm sure a moderator will move it for you.
I've done practically what you described myself, but we recently had a discussion about this sort of thing:
http://www.spudfiles.com/forums/pressur ... t9808.html
The eventual conclusion was that although some people may get away with using plastic bottles as chambers, they can display occasional weak points which make it something of a risk to do so.
I can't force you to go out and find proper rated pipe and fittings, but I strongly suggest that you do, or you may well become a statistic.
Of course, if you can find a sprinkler valve at the hardware store as well, then you'll get instant power bonuses from using that instead of a ball valve.

Novacastrian: How about use whatever the heck you can get your hands on?
frankrede: Well then I guess it won't matter when you decide to drink bleach because your out of kool-aid.
...I'm sorry, but that made my year.

im not recomending it but plastic bottles dont tend to have that flying srapnel usually just splits, so using a 2l bottle with ear protection might be pretty safe as for the ball valve if you must use a ball valve use a metal one and for useing super glue to hold pvc together well that is moronic.

Brod man I know why you want this gun(and talking about shooting a human or ANIMAL is forbidden on this site) and a bottle is a really bad idea. Dragging it through the woods could cause it to catch on something and burst. Make a PVC chamber. Also, it's really hard to aim accurately and turn a ball valve. Make a basic sprinkler gun.

Exactly what Windshrike said. Build a basic sprinkler cannon with a 2 in. chamber. Also, welcome to spudfiles.

Use the wiki at the top of the page, and please try and find things for yourself before asking.
To answer your question, here is a link concerning sprinkler valves...

dont use a bottle, its not worth the risk of blowing up in your face. the price of a coke bottle is the same as 2 feet of 2'' pvc.
you can get sprinkler valves at home depot or lowes and i think ace has them too. modding a sprinkler valve is very easy, there are no catches to it, you just drill a hole and screw in a nipple and a blow gun. (look at the link turbohacker gave you). here is another link.
http://www.spudfiles.com/forums/modding ... -t305.html
it shouldnt cost more than maybe $35 for the basic materials. if you dont have pvc glue and primer that will add 3 or 4 dollers. its really cheap.
good luck.

turbohacker: I told him about the wiki but he just got lost there.
brod man: a sprinkler valve($10-15) is a type of diaphragm valve that is used in sprinkler systems. Home Depot or lowes will have them near the pvc pipe. And yes use pvc.Use the link that hi gave you to mod the valve. Your basic setup is: an air chamber, sprinkler valve, barrel, and a fill valve(tire valve, theyll have them at an auto parts store).
Check out this gun:
http://www.spudfiles.com/forums/mbmr-vi ... 10013.html
That's your basic setup(ignore the laser and other aesthetic stuff).
Use only sch 40, nsf-pw pipe. NSF-dw can burst at as little as 30 psi.
The maximum safe pressure on a sprinkler valve is 150 psi.

i have no idea what that stuff means im not a math person, but im sure it has something to do with the little numbers on the side of the pipe. and do you have to made it to make it work for a gun? i dont have a compressor but whats the max i could pump with a bike pump?windshrike wrote:turbohacker: I told him about the wiki but he just got lost there.

Depends on your bike pump. I've seen suspension shock pumps that will go up to 400 psi. The foot ones usually go to 100 psi. If you don't have a gauge on your pump then you should put a gauge on your gun somewhere so you can manage pressure.
Yes it does have to do with the little numbers and words on it.
If it says sch 40(or 80) and nsf-pw you are safe(also, look for these things on the fittings too).

I’ve taken a 2litter bottle up to 100psi, via a Schrader stuck in the bottom, with out catastrophic failure twice, and regularly up to 40-80psi range well testing a hammer valve (that bottle is still intact).
I’ve done stress tests on 2litter bottles with the Schrader stuck in the cap, I’ve thrown ‘em down, hit ‘em with a 1X1 and a fence post (fence post caused a rupture but not catastrophic failure), I shot one with a Daisy15xt (three rounds, no damage. Was running low on gas though; muzzle velocity: aprox. 150-250fps, distance 10 feet.), and shot one with a Crossman 1322 at 10 pumps (rupture, loud “BOOOM”, no frag).
My conclusion: 2liter bottles are safe to 0psi*.
*I say 0psi so I can’t get in trouble when one fails, but they MAY be safe at 75-80psi**
**not responsible for any injuries or death

i wrote up the plans for my gun, its pretty simple, juste a air valve in a piece of 3/4" 2' pvc for the air chamber with an elbow to another elbow to a sprinkler valve then to a 3' barrel.
1 more question. how do you release the air from a sprinkler valve and do you have to mod it?

Buy 3 9-volt batteries, and a momentary switch. Buy some 9 volt battery clips. Put the clips on the batteries, and link them like this: solenoid wire to battery 1, other end of battery 1 to opposite polarity wire of battery 2, repeat until the last battery, then take the last battery wire, and connect it to the momentary switch. Take the other solenoid wire, and connect it to the remaining contact on the switch. If any of this confuses you, check this out:

Look at the part about solenoid wiring. You don't necessarily need a safety toggle switch, but it is handy, especially if you've never used a pneumatic before.
When you hit the switch, the solenoid will release the air. I would recommend using the solenoid with electricity before modifying it. You should get used to shooting a sprinkler valve pneumatic gun before you attempt any modification whatsoever. If you can't figure out how to use the solenoid electronically, it is very dangerous to modify it, as you probably don't have the experience necessary in understanding how the valve works. I would also strongly suggest a trip to the Spudfiles Wiki, which can be found at the top of the page.
If any of this confuses you, just PM me and I'll try my best to explain it. Please research before you PM, though.
Welcome to Spudfiles, or as I call it, the best **** Spudding site on the internetz! I hope you have fun with this incredibly addicting hobby!
