I don't know about the Irish but in America, I built my combustion cannon (propane meter, chamber fan, etc) for less than $50. I built a hefty pneumatic (modded sprinkler valve, breech loading, plenty of metal, etc) for around $100. I haven't built a hybrid but I'm almost positive I could for less than $150.

I live in the Uk, and its a darn site harder to get materials here than it is in the Us, my tennis ball cannon is costing around £150 ($300), its a pneumatic with a 1.5" sprinkler valve.

You could use epoxy instead of welding. There is a thread on this site somewhere that talks about this.

If you make it out of steel and copper you don't have to know how to weld. They sell threaded steel pipe fittings that you just coat in sealant tape and thread together. Also, copper can be either soldered on, (MUCH lower heat and easier than welding), or used with compression fittings. So I wouldn't go ruling out those materials, or go buying a bunch of JB Weld, just yet...

iv only seen it in very small diameter piping and cant find pressure rated fitting so it would be safer to make one out of steel/copper
abs is specall order when you can get it and its mad expensive il look harder for pressure rated pvc
