I am new to the art of cannon making and i was looking at some simple cannons i could build

you now the cannons with a modded sprinkler solenoid and i thought why is the hose fitting inserted in the top of the blowgun trigger valve is there any particular reason for this or just consistency (I think I spelt that incorrectly).

Yeah so if anyone can answer that it would be great.

Its to exhaust the air above the diaphragm to activate the valve. There is a flash animation of it somewhere.....

Ok i understand why the tapped fitting fits into the top of the solenoid but why does the other end of the hose (the one coming off the solenoid) always seem to go into the top of the blowgun valve

because some blow guns only work one way

The blow gun is a valve, when the handle is pushed down, it opens up and lets out the 'pilot volume' from the sprinkler valve, which actuates the valve and fires the gun. The hose isn't necessary but a valve like a blow gun is.

LOL you guys, he's asking why the hose looks like its on the wrong side of the blowgun. On the nozzle side instead of the part where you would insert a pressure hose. Am I right?

i have no idea, i wonder if its cause you still have to put presure through it from the bottom to fill up the pilot volume thingy, wow im tired and cant think

I personally have no idea why you would do this instead of putting it at the normal end. The normal end seems like it would be easier to find parts for... At least it is for me.

EDIT: And I thought they didn't work that way too..... I've never put a blowgun on something backwards... anything...

EDITEDIT: Well, I just looked at a few, and maybe they just look upside down because the eye isn't used to looking at them that way..... IDK...

by attaching them to the top (if it really is the top,) the hose doesnt have to wind around so much, though i highly doubt that it makes a difference in performance, unless the pilot volume has to be a specific size, as in on of my methods for shooting multiple shots.

It is pretty much because one person did it like that and most followed, or because that is the best way to hold the trigger (blowgun). maybe its because the hose adapters most people use are 1/4" hose to 1/8nominal and its easier to not use bushings. It doesn't really matter but blowguns do seal better from the 1/4 nominal input.

Its because some blowguns dont seal if you pressurize opposite the traditional flow. From what I understand and have seen, output pressure can cause the internal pin to unseat therefore leak, and inturn accidentally firing your spud gun. Not all blowguns do this and if you find one that works backwards...go for it, but I will keep mine on the input side.
