At the risk of sounding like Benstern, how is this allowed on the forum?, because we did not see the impact? Looks fake to me.

Oops, what forum rule might we be breaking? I assure you it was not faked. That was a foam rocket impacting inner thigh skin under denim jeans.

Well, talking about shooting living creatures is against forum rules.

However, if you'll wait just one moment...

Going to the LRC spreadsheet I'm working on, I get a completely different velocity to Ant. At 150 ft, I find the projectile was still going at around 100 m/s, for around 116J/85.5 ft-lbs of energy.

Although that's only about 30% of the ME, that's a lot more than I would want to get hit by. Not much less than I have been hit by though.

The exception to this rule is for proper use of legal airsoft and/or paintball markers.

Well, I believe we could say the marshals wouldn't allow a high calibre 600 fps launcher on the paintball field, so I don't believe this can get through that loophole this time, even if the Eclipse can be used as a field legal PB shotgun.

Fair point, though I imagine whoever made the first paintball marker had to administer a bit of pain before getting power levels right, all in the name of R&D of course :D

Well, actually, the first PB marker originally used for a paintball game was... I believe... a Nelspot 007 paint pistol (originally used to allow marking of animals without having to chase them all over the field, I think), which with it's original parts originally fired at a bit under 200 fps - but with a few velocity tweaks is still considered a very respectable marker, simply because of sheer accuracy.

The experimentation must have come much later.

Makes you wonder if the testers would monitor the decibel level of the moos.

I don't plan on making more videos of human targets. This one was for the most part spontaneous. The info has been valuable though.

The 100mps speed seems very possible. 70fps seemed a little slow, even at that distance. If I had the time I would put the 3d rocket model into Realflow and do a simulation.

oh, and the target human died twice on the operating table after a car wreck. Our friends consider him not a living creature, but UN dead. Loophole?

LOLOL I don't believe this forum has a policy on shooting at zombies :D

On another note, 600 fps for a 23 gram projectile is impressive stuff if you were to use it for more destructive purposes - assume you put that weight as a 10 gram sabot and 37 0.177 steel BBs each weighing 0.35 grams, that's one hell of a buckshot round at that velocity :D

That does sound rather painful. What is considered fast for a bb? Isn't a good bb gun able to hit over 1000 fps?

This is interesting. 600fps bb is used to calibrate.

Of course I don't suggest you fire that at a living target

I think 600-700 fps is the normal velocity for commercially available crosman type BB guns. In higher powered - so called "adult" - airguns, lead pellets tend to be used, as steel BBs can't bite into the rifling and therefore are incapable of the accuracy of their lead brethren.

haha, of course not. just curious. Note the edit to my last post with the addition of the link. good reading. Geez, I must sleep. It is 4am here, long day tomorrow starts in 5 hours.

a BB penetration between 3.25 and 3.75 inches

Imagine what 37 of them would do

Not really deep enough penetration to reliably reach a vital organ, but if it were a headshot... *ahem* I digress, before I fall foul of forum regulations.

I also have a mate who has a valid death certificate (which is a few years old now). I don't have one of those - I simply fail to die, he comes back to life.

However, last time we checked, he was definitely a vampire, not a zombie.
