Just making it clear to you that you are going to have to stop talking about shooting people with snow balls.

I really suggest you don't do it, something really bad could happen, if you give a spudgun the oppertunity to hurt someone, chances are it will.

Also...
i didn't see how a snowball could be any more dangerous than a paintball
Well a snowball is roughly 20x bigger, travelling slower but the rules state that you can only discuss it if it's fired from a legal paintball gun, i.e one you buy from a shop, it can't be homemade. Some homemade paintballs guns have managed to fire paintballs over 700fps.

So firing snow isn't safe at all, for the reason of brittle PVC in the cold and how much it could hurt someone else, i'm not sure what the rules are over there in America but you probably could have it taken off you if caught by a cop.

Also if something does go bad, then you'll just give us more bad press showing how 'dangerous' spudguns are.

I don't want to start an argument or anything, but because a snowball is bigger than a paintball wouldn't that mean it is less dangerous because of the greater surface area on impact? I understand it also has more kinetic energy, but I mean when fired at reasonable velocities. That's kind of why I wanted to use pneumatic, so I could have greater consistency with my shots. (I'm talking about less dangerous when fired at inanimate objects, not a person...)

I don't see what's so dangerous about firing a snowball at a *very* low pressure from a spudgun.

It's kind of like playing with a jar of black powder- fun in small amounts, but can get very dangerous if you get carried away.

Regardless, your intended target probably won't affect your design anyways, so no need to bother arguing over the semantics of it.

its not about whats dangerous, if you want to survive on these forum you have to abide by the rules, simple as that.

And if you want to survive the winter dont use PVC, otherwise your playing with a pipe bomb.

Are you a paraplegic?
Making a spudgun for shooting snowballs seems practically useless, it'll take the fun away because you'll be the only person with one. Chances are in favor of something going wrong and when it does, you'll wish you had just thrown the snowball with your own bloody arms.
Using a spudgun to fire snowballs at your friends is like using a tank to kill a fly. The cons definately outweigh the pros so why not make a tennis ball launcher instead, providing that you dont fire it at your friends.

um... no. And using it for snowballs doesn't mean I can't also use it for something else...

edit: So, another question. I went and bought PVC today, and ended up getting two 10' 3" diameter pipes for barrels and chambers (I'm building 2). So, with the materials I have, how big should I make the barrels and chambers? I think 5' and 5' would probably be too big... Maybe like 4' and 4'? My only problem with the bigness really is that I don't want the PVC to warp, given it'll really only be supported in the middle with the sprinkler valve, and I'm really hoping the threads connecting the barrel and chamber to the sprinkler hold well (I plan to use teflon tape for them so I can add different barrels later if I want). What do you guys think?
