hey ive tried to make a mortar before with no success. This time i got it right with a sugestion from someone else on this site. it's quite simple, I used 2ft of 1.5" to a 1.5" union to another 2ft of 1.5." I did some preliminary tests at 40 psi. It was good enough to hit my neighbors roof. This was certainly an improvement from my previous attempt which pushed the round a couple inches up in the barrel. It made me very angry though. This is my 3rd pneumatic, it's the simplest! Yet, like its 2 predecesors, It leaks! It leaks out of the schrader, which i half expected. Ill either buy a threaded one, or make friends with someone who owns a compressor. But, it also leaks out of the union! somehow, no matter how tight i screw it, air still slips by the aluminum foil. Anyone experienced this? is there a better material that wont leak? I really wanna get this bad boy up and running to its full potential.
Ive also got another idea that id like to run by and i dont feel like starting a new thread. Instead of going through another bike pump or buying a compressor, could i make my own pump. Id take a small diameter pipe, most likely 1/2." Then id have a check valve flowing into the chamber to fill it when im applying pressure. Make a simple piston with an oring or something. Then id add another check valve flowing into the pump so it brings in air to the pump instead of creating a vaccum effect. Does this idea have any possibility of working?

I think that would workk....... but about your leaks, my best friend took the po' mans route by cutting a valve our of a tire, and i wound fixing the problems. _ my answer? lots of hott glue( for the schrader)

Sounds good. But for the leeking union, they sell rubber gaskets made just for unions I think and pretty sure they sell at most hardware stores. And get some pics of it!!

Yeah, this ones a poor man's tire valve, i did invest in a threaded one in another venture. I am hoping to use a compressor as i can just tap a quick connect and leaking wouldnt be much of an issue. ya, no the union already has a rubber ring. I think it leaks because the aluminum foil wrinkles and causes leaks. Is there a better material to use?

If it leaks out of the scrhader valve simply tighten the valve, no biggy.

If the Schrader Valve is leaking from the inside of the valve, then you can tighten it with a shrader valve key. You can get the key at any hardware or bike shop.

I don't know what type of setup you have but shrader valve leaks are common but can be easily fixed.[/img]

oh no sorry, i misled you, it leaks around the schrader. thats not the big problem like i said either a compressor or a threaded one, i hate epoxy. The real problem is that the aluminum foil seal in the union is leaking. Somehow no matter how much i tighten our how flat the disk is it still leaks. Has anyone tried making that pump that i talked about? is it possible or will it be a waste of monies?

Thats strange because alluminum foil seals almost perfectly for me. Try using tape like duck tape or masking tape those usually seal pretty good for me also (duct tape seals a little better though). Other than that if your using a pvc union try a metal one, they always seem better in my opinion. And good luck getting everything sealed nice.

Why do you hate epoxy it is the most reasonable solution to your problem.
