ok i have made a copper gun. i used a piston valve. but instead of the sealing face pressing against the barrel like normal pistons. This on gets pushed inside the barrel. Like a barrel plug in paintball. Also this "plug" is actuated by a pneumatic air cylinder from a autococker. The actuator is double acting and will probably be controled by two blow guns. One for sealing the barell and one for unplugging it. here are pics and diagrams.

Wow, nice work! I think that's the first gun I've seen that works like that, kudos :!:

It should work, as long as you have a good seal around the plug, and you have a strong pneumatic cylinder.

The plug will need o-rings.
And I hope for you that the actuator will actuate fast enough.

If those things are done properly, youve got an awesome valve there!

BTW:
Unless you want to make a stock out of the chamber, the valve should be twisted 180 on the chamber elbow to get a more compact gun. (over-under)

yeah i know the over under thing but i like it better this way. and the valve is very fast. also the plug does have o-ring, 2 actually. the cylander can go back and forth about 40 times a second with the right valve. like i said it was made for autococker paintball guns

Okay then good luck with completing your build :)

how much travel does that actuator have? and how much force?

there will be more and more force needed to open it vs how much psi you use. Whereas in a normal piston valve they opening force is relative to the pressure.

the actuator has about an inch to inch and a half of travel.
and it should be pretty powerful it as to cock back a paintball gun.
