this is my first post on this forum so yeah, plz no comments like 'NOOB' or wateva

Okay..
Well i just finished my first cannon, but unfortunatly its has a Ball Valve...Which arent that good compared to Pistons and stuff. So i found this thing called a Pneumatic Ram on the Wiki and you can use it to speed up your Ball Valve.
So how does a Pneumatic Ram work and how do u make it? Ty
BTW i DID search the Wiki and the Forum.

a spring setup would be a lot easier to make and would be cheaper.

A pneumatic ram uses a sliding and probably o-ringed piston.
If you can make that, you can also make piston valves wich would make you scrap the ballvalve immediatly.

If you let the ball valve open by spring action it will open much faster then when you open the valve with your hand. If you look in the pneumatic showcase you will find some if these guns!

While a pneumatic cylinder would work, I would not recommend it.
  • Cost - The cylinder itself, with all the necessary components are going to be at least ~$20 making piston valves, etcetera viable.

Risk - Since the cylinder produces a linear force, it can present problems when used for a rotational ball valve. Especially if the valve is PVC, or some other plastic.

Complication - While not rocket science, it may be a uneccesary modification considering other available options.
What should you do? Try the suggested "spring" mechanism, or try a valve that has greater performance right out the bag. Not a ball valve of course.

If your still interested in how a pneumatic cylinder works, I provided a animation. [I think the animation makes sense itself, however if you would like more explination google "pneumatic cylinder"]

Pimpmann22 has it rite. Pxycis also has it rite. If your about to make the time and effort to build a pnuematic ram, you can deffently build a piston valve and get way way better preformance out of it.

If your ball valve is threaded in place, just take it off and use a sprinkler valve.

If not, well, what everyone else said.
