filling dead space in pump with fiberglass resin....

Do any of you know if fiberglass resin will harden in an enclosed space?
I blocked off the check valve and pressure gage by supergluing little disks of rubber to the end and screwed them into the tee then I pured resin into the top till it was full. I waited until the resin left in the mixing cup got relatively hard and unscrewed the check valve and the gage to find that the resin inside was still not hard. I hope it will eventually harden.
I know it needs to "gas out", I hope that doesn't screw up the whole thing.

Sorry for putting up a pointless post...

I just wasn't patient enough, seems it just takes a bit longer without the air. Looks like its starting to harden, I was able to drill the pilot holes through the center of the tee and the top of the tee. Now it has good air flow and should get nice and hard.
I will remove this post a little later.

I would be a bit worried about that resin weakening with heat. That area of the pump gets very hot when pumping.
Generally fibreglass resin is a polyester resin. Epoxy is much better. In particular you can get high heat epoxy for engine use.

I will have to be careful I'm not getting it too hot, I would really rather it wasn't getting hot even if I had used epoxy. I just finished it and tested it for the first time. I'm going to post pics under the same topic I have been using..."ongoing progress update pictures", if your interested.

BTW it is a polyester resin. and thanx for the info, I didn't know about the heat weakness of it.

You actually have little choice unless you pause while pumping it up.
The ten strokes it requires to fill my pistol to 350 makes the bottom of the pump uncomfortably hot.
It is not just the friction but the temperature spike when you rapidly compress the air.
In fact I'm pretty sure if you sprayed some starter fluid in the bottom of the pump and forced it down rapidly, there would be an explosion that would drive the pump handle into you.

In two parts I suppose it is a pump action rifle... The pump is 3 foot tall though, so It would be impractical to attach to the gun. If you want to see what it is designed to pump up, I just posted more pics and descriptions in my thread, "ongoing progress update pictures"
