Im not quite sure i understand what you mean, is it still mounted in the fridge? on my compressor, there was a little box on the back with 2 wires comming out of it - 1 for power and 1 for the thermostat. other than that it was basically just screwed on to the back of the fridge with some kind of a frame and some impressively long screws

This may be a little off topic but I hope it will make sense at the end.
You guys are thinking of small coolant compressors with small outputs, why not go bigger. Without going to far off subject I will tell you the off road industry have been using modified AC pumps for main air compressors. Still capable of 500PSI+ with the volume of a shop compressor.
The best ones are made by "York" they are oil lubricated, use a simple V belt and can be bought cheep. Add a old lawn mower engine and you have a compleat portable compressor that at low pressers can run a drill and still fill a 500 psi tank.
I am at work still so I can't give anymore info just search the following terms. OBA, on board air, York AC compressor, ect.

I will post up latter with more info and I can get some pictures. I have the big daddy of them all a 10 CC duel piston sitting in the garage next to a lawnmower engine.

Wowie....I'd love to get one of those... Hyldgaard, this setup on the compressor looks a little bit different. There are a stack of wires that come of a few different places on it :(...

Thank you so much for that mate, I really appreciate it. The thing that I'm worried about is the power supply to the compressor. It is completely dead after all. I'm worried that I finally get the unit out, and can't get it to run. Is it possible that the motor inside the compressor has blown?

mitchza I have no idea really... you should remove the compressor and try to get it to run - that's all... I've already spend more time replaying to your questions than it takes to remove the compressor... just do it

Can you post a picture? I might be able to help you if it is just a tad like mine.

Point well taken mate. I've just been at work a hell of alot and hardly at home (so it's easier to try and make sense of it all over spudfiles then to remove it myself. It's saturday tomorrow so I'll get onto it and see what I can do.

Cheers for all the help Poland, I hope I havn't wasted any of ya time mate. Cheers to everyone else too.

no you haven't wasted my time I just meant that the best way to find out whether it would work or not is to test it... since we didn't get a picture of that firdge we can't really give you any good answers to your questions...
