Which Breech Loader?

Okay, I have made a SValved Pneumatic rifle. Im thinking about creating a Breech loader for the gun.
Im not sure if i should use a breech loader that moves the barrel, or a breech loader that moves a piece of pipe around the barrel.
What are the pros and cons for each?

When your barrel is long-ish or just really heavy it becomes difficult to shove the whole barrel up and down.
The whole part of bolt-action breech loaders is to find a piece of pipe that fits around your barrel. One option is to use an coupler for that, but since a coupler is somewhat short, it becomes hard to move the whole barrel. (not enough support n stuff)
Also it is safer to physically attach the barrel to the gun by threads or glueing since your bolt-action locking MAY fail if it isnt built strong enough, and your barrel will go flying.
I'd say use a piece of pipe that moves around the barrel.

if you have a small diameter barrel (.5" to 1") then you can just cut a hole in the top to load the projectile, and then grind out a coupler so it slides over. I have done this, and it works very well.

The second option would probably be best if you wanted to keep your barrel stable

I think about that stuff all the time. Its starting to drive me nuts.. :dontknow: I give up ..Im just going to make my cannon a muzzle loader, and be done with it already. Now Im starting to find a way to mount a sight.

Fishboy my barrel is 1/2 inch, so I will probably use the sliding coupling idea.
But wont this leak?

yeah you should probably put some o-rings on it for a good seal, but it'll only leak for a very short period of time since all the gas is out the barrel in probably less than a second( depending on your c:b ratio it might be a bit more). for optomal performance i would put o-rings on it but they're not needed all that much.

Yes, it will leak, but not significant unless the coupler is very very loose or your barrel is really long and projectile really heavy.
You could always add duct tape as ghetto solution, and to do it the good way: O-rings
