Air Compressor Pruchasing Guide

Hey guys, I just thought of a good idea.
I think it would be nice to have an air compressor purchase guide.
It could list things to look for such as CFM rating, pressure rating, tank size, etc.
I've been looking for a new compressor, and I have some knowledge when it comes to looking for the right one but it would be nice if one of the more expierenced members with air compressors would right up a guide.. It would help new and experienced spuders alike.
We could have it listed from low pressures to high pressures.. like have a section for air compressors up to 170psi another section for compressors that are above 170.
We could also have a section of "Best Buy for the money".

this is a great idea. but I thought a lot of people used fridge compressors, so if this is correct I think there should be a section for fridge compressors aswell, like the best brand and what siz unit is best to pull from. (If I am mistaken please let me know, when I saw "fridge compressor" in many forms I assumed it was yanked from an actual fridge)

Nice idea, it should go in the wiki. I haven't seen any compressors you could commercially buy that go above 170 psi. Except for one that fills the precharged airguns. I've only had one compressor a electric kobalt. We need a gas versus electric section as well.

you can buy HPA compressors to fill air canesters for paintball, Electric compressors are usally the same as gas ones, just the gas powered ones are better if you want a portable air station

Just a handful of members use fridge compressors. (Probably less then 10)
I don't think brand or size matters much, if you're lucky enough to find a working fridge compressor, then you should just be happy with that. People find it hard enough just to get their hands on any type of working fridge compressor, I don't think a section in the Wiki is required to determine which fridges you should be targetting.
Though a section on fridge compressors overall would be nice, maybe a sub heading under 'compressors'?

as far as LP goes, avoid oil-less compressors like the plague.
go out and buy an old one and fix it up, you'll be happier, I've used both and oil-less compressors are loud and obnoxious, most oil drinking compressors are rather quite quiet.

Run the pump by hand, holding you hand over the outlet, if it doesn't start generating pressure within the first 10 revolutions the pumps most likely bad or it has a leak.
if it's a leaky tank you can replace it with a tank from China-mart for what... 20 bucks.
if you can at all plug it in and see if it runs.
if it runs and pressurizes, check the pump and manifold for leaks.

if the thing does not run, chances are it just needs rewired.

take replacing things like that into consideration when making an offer.
one more thing, look for a double acting pump, twin-pump, etc., type compressor they are as fast or faster than modern compressors.

AFAIK this is right.. not many spudders have them... but many would like to have one...
it seems that it is difficult to get them when you live in a country that does care about the ozone layer and stuff...
BTW I've just found out that my neighbour has a working fridge compressor
(though he uses it to pump tires) this does prove the conclusion I made in the previous paragraph, doesn't it??

yeah that would be a good idea... converting a fridge pump into a fridge compressor is very easy and I managed to build one without any problems. However they are much more dangerous than store bought compressors (since they use high pressure and they are homemade devices) so it would be a good idea to have a short article on them... ( something that would offer a instruction how they work, how to made them and
HOW DANGEROUS THEY MIGHT BE)
acctually I was planning to make a better thread with pictures and step by step instruction but it had to be postponed (yeah....you get it right I am very, very lazy)

I just robbed a fridge from its heart last week.
After connecting it to the power net, it started up and made a nice purring noise like a little cat.
Just have to connect an air line to it, and I can start entertaining people around here, as I will finally be able to put my still unseen gun up to its full capacity and post it.

Alright guys, as nice as fridge compressors are... Can we now post links to regular air compressors with tanks that are available to buy new..
Links are what im really looking for...
