Post any valves for pneumatic guns here. and what do you think the simplest and easiest valve is to make and use!

well the simplist is a ball valve... you just put it infront of your chamber and behind your barrel... then you turn it to unleash the air... but you won't get good performance at all.

the next simplist is a QEV (which is a ready made piston valve (please search for an explination), you attach the chamber to one port, the barrel to a second (usually 90degrees off the chamber) and then comes the 'complicated bit' you need a pilot valve!!!!! for this you can use a ball valve, then connect a 90 degree curve pipe fitting and a cored schrader valve to the back... you open the ball valve, fill through the schrader with no core with your pump of choice, then close the ball valve, disconnect the pump and you fire by opening the Ball valve again.




thats similar to what i meant, but you can make the turn with one pipe fitting (usually malleable iron)[/b]

There's also Lever-Arm operated globe valves. That's what they use to set off steam whistles. It uses the same sealing method as your garden spigot, but with a lever instead of a screw.
McMaster.com offers them in pull(arm sticks straight out and has a hole for a rope), or squeeze(arm runs down the pipe that goes into the valve body, pull like a trigger).

I'm surprised I haven't seen these used as main valves for snipers, or pilot valves for bigger pistons.

Then there's my own personal favorite, the simple push-button valve, seen here as the pilot valve for my QEV. (The PBV is the little square thing on the front there...)

being as how there is a ton of different valve styles.
short list:
gate
ball
dump
Poppet
spool

with about 50 variations off each particular type...


simplest/easiest to use?
sprinkler valve (which is a dump valve)...
fallowed closely by a ball valve since ball valves take more force to open.

ARe you asking for advice on a valve? Or just starting a thread so people can come and look some up (liek a sticky).

Easiest by far is the ball valve.

Simplest is the sprinkler valve (but it'll take a tiny bit of kno-how to make)

If you go to http://www.spudfiles.com/forums/pneumat ... n-f26.html you will find every valve, and lots of talk of what is the easiest to make.

If I am not mistaken, the thread is intended to be like that spudgun forum, called Spudfiles, where they talk about different valves and the way to make them. Rather than go there though, you could just look at this single thread, with all 10000000000000000000000000 posts smushed into one. All of those separate threads are a waste, why not talk about everything in one?

Seriously? What were you trying to get at here? Haven't you heard of the pneumatic cannon discussion section of the forum? That is what "Post any valves for pneumatic guns here. and what do you think the simplest and easiest valve is to make and use!" is.

Type 'valve' in the search, look in awe at the amount of pneumatic valves available on the commercial market and come back here in embarrassment in realising how stupid this topic is.

My personal taste is for Barrel sealing piston valves. Good flow, good opening time, low effort to use.
Basically, it's as good as a valve's performance gets without going into the troubles of burst disks.

I strongly suspect that the aim of the OP was to get answers to the question: "I want a valve for my new cannon, can you suggest one?" without actually asking that question.

I am unsure of the original aim of this thread but i find it to be a fairly good idea: We should either have a sticked thread with all valves that can be used for pneumatics(or any other kind of cannons for that matter) or we should get the wiki so that there is a disciption of all valves are in place, I realise it is quite alot of work but i think it would be well worth it, and then these kind of questions that truely do waste quite some time, will not come about alot and we can jsut say: Read the wiki. Of coarse using the search function is even simpler but many(including my self) just like having everything on one spot, if people decide that my idea is any good i am happy to help in any way possible.

It's already on the Wiki.

Seperate articles for all the main valves we use.

I did not find hammer valves for example...

Nothing stopping you writing it ^^

My english is not as good as it could be and i am unsure if i, as THE NOOB am really the right person to right it...

Hammer valves aren't all that common. Also they are widely used for commercial guns outside this hobby, if one can't find something on the Wiki about them, nothing is stopping them from using Google.
