EDIT Butane powered pneumatic

Hey everybody, I was cruising youtube, looking at all the how to's, (by the way, howcome the ones you really want to see are in french...) And I came across this piece of work

Image

It is a pneumatic gun that runs off of a mix of air and butane, and fires multiple times from one charge,

It uses a fire extinguisher as a primary tank, then looks like it feeds to a smaller one that it fires from.

You don't need to speak french to appreciate this...

Even if you can't speak french, the pictures might help...

Any ideas as to how this would work would be greatly appreciated, because that looks like one fun gun to shoot!

EDIT: I looked up the maker, and found this video of him charging and firing it some,

http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=PICgEsKW4 ... re=related

And since it is just a tiny squirt of butane, it doesn't look like it would really contribite that much, and also looks much like it would be a good feed for a semi auto combustion, so this is just leading me in all different directions :?

wow that's a very nice gun
lets try to get him on spudfiles :D
I would love to shoot so many times without pumping or other diffecult actions

hmmm Am I the only person who noticed that the french acctually build more creative guns than people here on spudfiles ?? given that their community is smaller in numbers...
I don't know why I get this impression maybe becasue they don't stick to PVC all the time but they do seem to build some great stuff

I agree, I'm glad I speak french, because the videos on youtube on how to make a QEV and Hammer valve are french, (and I suspect are by the same guy under different names) He (they) have some really nice guns,

totally true
maybe because on spudfiles people find guns they like and build one a kind of simmilar
but is butane a little efficient or could better replace it with high pressure?

this one is nice too :D

Hence my love for and ceaseless promotion of epoxy adhesive ;)

Here's another great french gun builder...

http://ca.youtube.com/user/spike33127

He actually is a member of spudfiles, but has only posted one gun (a fantastic one at that) as far as I'm aware.

Some points of interest for his guns are the M25 bolt action sniper, and the homemade QEV's, some really nice stuff here.

And also, maybe it's only the really phenominal guns like that that manage to cross the language gap, and leave everyone amazed

Not bad, but this is in the wrong section, because that's a combustion (If you read the topic on the other forum, even to my rubbish French, it's pretty clear. The guy does seem to want to keep calling it a hybrid though).
Certainly one of the fastest firing I've ever seen, because it's filling from a pre mixed tank of butane/air mix. (Ask yourself why he'd be doing that if it were pneumatic)

You haven't seen what I'm building. ;)

OH ok, I thought it was pneumatic because of the valve at the back, but that's the gas input isn't it.. oh wow this all makes sense now, except for where the ignition is :?

EDIT; I see it, nevermind  thanks rag...

I reckon it could be done differently to that.

If you could get a sparky lighter with a trigger, you could wire your butane/air feed in to where the gas would normally go.
Hold trigger down slightly, and it feeds a new mix in. Pull it fully, it sparks and fires.

You'd need to adjust it to get the flow up, but it would work.

I like it alot still, reminds me of the tippman c3, But can't flamable gasses "diesel" under pressure like that? I would be worried of an accidental hybridization and explosion...

You know what has began to annoy me, why everyone is calling there homemade piston valves QEV's, while they are they are essentially the same I believe the term QEV should be reserved for commercial valves.

I disagree, they are the same mechanism, and really, could be used for the same application, the only difference is that ours "exhaust" into a barrel...

what does it matter that he calls it a QEV? It's the same thing, only homemade.

I thought of that too...

would it be possible to make a simple regulator that would shut off propane as soon as there is a right mix ? you know you would have to calculate how much pressure increases when you inject the right amount of propane (assuming that chamber is sealed) and make a regulator that would close as soon as the pressure inside the chamber is close to predicted pressure for ideal mix... the regulator would be just a piston with large pressure differential so that it would close even at very low pressures....

I know it would be tricky but it might be doable

Guys if you want lots of shots with no hassle drop 30 bucks on a co2 tank and 80 on a palmer stabalizer. Now you have lots of shots semi auto at any pressure you want 0-800 PSI for about 110 bucks, then refils for 5 or so.
