So I made this. UHMW 3" piston. 10 and 3/4 oz.

Grrr, I need to return this stock to Mcmaster. I bought the wrong size.

I'm still waiting on the mailman to deliver my grooving tool.

Ooooo...Pretty. :D

Waiting for a "grooving" tool?? Why?

Grind a form tool from a HSS blank, or use your parting tool. That's what I do.

I don't have a decent grinding wheel, and I don't use a parting tool.

And for whatever reason, my belt decided to break as I turned on the lathe. No problem though, I just cut a piece of weedeater line and fused it together. Works great, haha...knocks on wood. Sure beats paying $15 for one online and then waiting a week to get it.

I wouldn't bother making a grooving tool from HSS, you need to remove a lot of material and they go dull fast. As gipetto said, just use your parting (cut off) tool. Hell, if your steady enough you can just hold a saw to it (saw blades can also make average temporary parting tools).

Though very nice piston, what's it for? (a cannon obviously)

That's sweet. Can't wait to see the video of the finished cannon. One quick question, what is the valve seat size going to be? 2 inch, 2.5 inch?
