Copper tubing burst (Type M)

Have you knowledge of what happens with respect the shrapnel?

How does copper compare a PVC burst?

You're unlikely to get shrapnel unless you load it with high explosive, it will probably stretch and tear.

Not gas pressure related but this is what happenedwith my copper barrel in a BB auto.

I can live with that.

According to the charts, Type M is way up there in bursting PSI.

Makes me wonder why do folks use steel chambers?

1) Steel is a lot cheaper than copper

2) Even higher pressure ratings plus its extra strength and hardness takes abuse better. Copper tends to deform rather easily -_-

Flared the tip of my copper barrel once when firing a solid plastic slug at very close range, the slug didn't clear the barrel before impacting the target and expanded INSIDE the barrel tip.

It's annoying because my barrels have to be nigh-on perfectly straight and smooth due to the way it's attached - sliding through very close fitting T's, a deformation like that mucks it all up and its back to sorting through the stock at a DIY place for another "perfect" barrel.

I can tell you from personal experience that copper will take insane pressures and all that happens it it tears. Just the memory of the noise made by copper ripping itself apart at 30bar in a classroom still makes me shudder. The whole class was partially deaf for a few days.
