I dunn if this is a dumb question but would a 12V air compressor be powerful enough to operate a pneumatic rifle?

Help much appreciated :)

Meh. Yes and no. They will go to 100 psi alright, but don't count on getting the 250+ psi it says on the packet, it's just unfeasible.

There have been reports of them giving out under spudding duties. If you don't push them too hard they will be ok.

Though I'd really suggest a track pump.

Most are built for topping off a low tire. They are not designed to handle the constant running of multiple shots. The output is low volume.

Due to this they may be OK for a single shot every hour or so. More than that will wear them out and overheat them.

The plastic parts in them don't hold up to the heat. A bike pump outperforms them very easily.

Pick up a regular compressor that is built to power air tools. They are built to run all day.

This thread covers some of the problems others have had. It has a picture of an inexpensive compressor I use at the end on the last page.
