hi everybody iamb new here. I was planning on building a the worlds most powerful pneumatic spud gun. I am going to use a hydraulic pump, for up to 10000 psi. yes lady's and gentleman this is not a typo. 10000 psi! I need some advice on what to use for the chamber, valve and barrel. any ideas? thanks in advance.

Are you new to spud guns or new here. If your new to spudguns I wouldnt start with something like that.

no i'm not new to spud guns just new to this site. i've been doing spud guns for about a year now. I may not be the best spud gunner but i am definitely not a beginner.

Well in that case look at the pumpkin chuckers they dont run off of that high of pressure but are extremly powerful. Any idea of the size you want because that can affect the valve greatly.

There is a chance using a hydraulic pump directly won't be that useful on a spudgun, unless you can compress air using hydraulic power, most hydraulics pumps won't work very well with air.

i was thinking a either a 1 inch valve or a 2.5 inch depending on what i decide the projectile should be.

edit:
the hydraulic pump is technically a hydraulic air compressor i think. I believe their would be something on the market that i can use even if the one i'm currently looking at is not the what i'm looking for.

Building a pneumatic to qualify as the largest in the world would entail possibly hours to charge up. Or creating a hybrid with the pump and bringing the chamber to around 3000psi (around a 200x mix) would yield close to 20000psi in the chamber. It would be quicker and easier to get more power out of it. That is in theory.

Something tells me that 10,000psi would be inefficient for some reason. I mean, wouldn't you need an insanely long barrel to see the benefit from such densely packed gas? Would it expand faster than say, 3000psi or would it just expand more? I suggest playing with GGDT.

artillery creations i believe that is false becuase if you check out lardas first hybrid,
http://www.spudfiles.com/forums/lardas- ... 15524.html

his goes up to 200x mix and the pressure valve is only rated to 5000 psi. if i am wrong in any way please recorrect me. sorry if i sound like a jerk but that's who i am

edit:
it would expand faster and more and as long as their are no leaks it would be not neccasarily as effeicent as a 3000 psi spud gun but even so it would be a lot more powerful. what does GGDT stand for?

That is an awkward way to spend your sixth post. You're new here and already saying you're so straight minded? mmmh...well anyways;
At some point, increasing the pressure of a gas becomes inefficient, the more pressure the quicker the temperature drop when explosively decompressing (read actuating the main valve), and thus the less the efficiency due to a decrease of the medium's speed of sound.
This is partially why a hybrid is more powerfull than a same pressure pneumatic.

We all know Larda's hybrid, very well made, very powerful, or killjoy's F.E.A.R. , both very powerfull hybrids that don't require 10,000 psi.

If you really want to impress us, make something new, like a light gas gun. Otherwise you'll be the "jerk" you claim to be.

Being straight minded is a good thing and i never even said I even was straight minded. I have my priorties in check. Do you? I know that a hybrid produces more power for the same psi because the heat expands faster than cold. I never said I was producing the most powerful spud gun. I said I was attempting to produce the worlds most powerful pneumatic spud gun.

I have an feeling that air would liquefy before that pressure but I cannot give you a exact pressure all I can tell you is that the machines that make liquid air pressurizes the air to 3000psi then the air is cooled and re-pressurized to the same pressure and cooled again then re-pressurized and so on until it goes liquid

all I am saying is I am fairly certain that the air would go liquid at the pressure and them comes the question what the %&*$* are you gonna make the chamber out of it is not like a lot of materials can stand the forces at play there all I can think of is exotic alloys like inconel or some other extremely hi strength "super" alloys that would break the bank

Do you even have access to machining equipment? You could always take a 3" in diameter piece of stainless steel, machine it so that you have a massive wall thickness, make some kind of home made quick exhaust valve using a steel ball as piston. It would however require a lot of experience to do so. The fact that you come here to ask us about it tends to show that you lack that experience.
however, you might wanna take a look if not already at gippeto's creations.

I was thinking of using the same metal as "lardas first hybrid" or something close to that. I dont believe the air would liquify because it's the cold that makes something liquid not pressure, prssure does play a role but the temperature inside the chamber from the pressure would have to become at about neqative 300 fareinheight.

edit:
There are a few machine/fabrication shops around where I live. I would get an estimate from them.

if you could send me a link to"gippeto's creation" that would be appreciated

Well, it may turn out to be the world's most powerful water cannon.
