I've searched time and time again, and found nothing on the anywhere on the web... or the wiki... Are they the same thing as a poppet valve? What is their function? BTW I have no idea what a poppet valve is either. Any good examples?
Thanks

The name would suggest there being a hammer and a valve. so my guess would be that any valve where a hammer is used to open (or close) the valve would be called a hammer valve? as for a clear definition not sure buddy

Dang that diagram is confusing... It seems like a spring loaded mechanism that triggers a sort of piston valve, am I close? :?

umm not really think of a blowgun where a hammer from a cap gun fires it

no but you can attach a hammer to it in order to turn it into a hammer valve

You didn't really answer my question... Is there a hammer valve in a blowgun?

no... but you can turn it into a hammer valve.. just like quite a lot of other valves...

it's pretty much all about having a hammer... you can even turn a shrader valve into a hammer valve (if you hit the stem with something heavy while it's pressurised)

Oh sorry POLAND SPUD I meant to say that to clemsonguy but you posted right before me.

OHH I get it now. Is it the same thing as a poppet valve?

nope... you can find an article that explains what the poppet valve is in my thread on DCV valves

A hammer valve is basically a valve that is held closed very firmly by gas pressure. It is opened momentarily by hitting the valve with a weight (the hammer). The valve closes quickly; again due to the action of the gas pressure.

Hammer valves tend to be low flow devices but they excel at briefly opening very high pressure gas flows.
