chamber sealing piston without o-rings

I'm going to dive right into this with no back story about how i figured it out, so here i go...
when you consider a normal barrel sealing sprinkler valve, technically what you have is a piston attached to a diaphragm. this diaphragm is air tight so an equalization hole is necessary in order it air to get into the chamber, but what if we plugged this one and drilled a new EQ hole through the center of the piston?
the positions of the chamber and the barrel would be switched! So this idea could also be implemented in a homemade piston, all you need is a diaphragm clamped in a union the flexes with piston or just an EQ hole leading into the barrel, and there you have it... chamber sealing piston valve with no o- rings!
Whadda ya'll think? will it work, will it be effecient, most importantly though, am i the first to come up with this ?
